One of Detroits finest locals, DJ Quadlow's latest demo is full of Techy goodness for your earhole. Quadlow is a fun, nice kid from the D who's pure fire behind the decks, his set at Envy was easily my favorite of DEMF 2005, and his new demo "Amalgamte" is one of the most strangely wonderful demos i've heard this year.
So DL and enjoy... Feedback will be passed on, this set & DJ come highly recommended by DJ RJT...

BUMP
thanks Rob for putting it up for me. take a listen guys/gals and let me know what you think. the following is my bio for anyone interested which explains a little more about me and such.
Biography:
The performance beyond the turntables and CDJs is one of Quadlow's signature trademarks. The energy he pours into the crowd along with the beats of progressive tribal house and tribal house sounds can be highlighted by his moving and grooving style to the dark flair of bass lines and kick drums pulsating through the night. Influenced from long-time favorites of Deep Dish, Danny Tenaglia, Saeed & Palash, Steve Lawler and Timo Maas, has helped Quadlow grow his style and form into a prime example of the evolution of sound, body, and soul.
Having been mentored by one of Detroits old school house DJs, G-Major, Quadlow has emerged over the last 4 years as hard hitting, technically proficient DJ putting his best foot forward to push along the musical sounds and boundaries that are heard from nightclubs and venues in the Detroit area. Such appearances and residencies at Necto, Bleu Room, The Works, Exile, Movement 2004, Trancesphere.com Radio (Rising Star, 2004 Summer Sessions), Altered State and Gangsters of Groove Events have ignited crowds of partygoers and lovers of electronic dance music.
In the summer of 2005 Quadlow has gone on to emerge more of his personal sound and exploration. By fusing together different elements of electronic music, whether it be tech-house, electro, minimal, techno, it is his mission to move you not only physical, but mentally. |

This is the little review I posted on the DCS forums, figured I'd share it with the TA's as well:

I also just wanted to note in here that this demo has taken a genre/style of EDM that is exceptionally hard for me to enjoy and sunk its teeth into me like crazy. I usually don't like much minimal/techy sounding stuff, that is unless it's programmed right. This demo is programmed, IMO, perfectly.
I love how the beginning starts of with a bit more of a melodic (well, as melodic as this sound gets) tone to it, very much reminiscent of Balance 005 for me. The first 20-30 minutes flows exceptionally well. From 30 minutes until about 50 or so I thought Mathias did a great job of keeping the pace of the set going, even though (and this is likely my only criticism) I did feel that during this 15-20 minute segment the sound did get a little repetitive, but definitely not "bad," I guess the best way to put it is that at this point I stopped paying as much attention as I did before, like the set wasn't just grabbing me and saying "Listen up focker! You're going to listen to this and move your ass!"
But as I said, that was a brief part in the set, and I hear the same thing in just about every set I listen to, so it's definitely not a big worry.
The set finishes great, it's always good to hear Holden's remix of "The Sky was Pink" and I have really loved Habersham - Dryspell for a while now.
More than anything I think it's especially great, after having to get to know Mathias a little bit and talking with him about what "sound" he wants to play, to hear something that reminded me so much of one of my favorite sets of all time, Balance 005. I don't mean that in the sense that it's trying to be Balance 005, I mean it in the sense that this set affected me much in the same way those discs did in that it's this strangely wonderful sound that I'm not sure I even knew existed, and know I couldn't create. |
I also wanted to add that upon further listening, I don't really feel there is any segment of this set that doesn't "fit." I guess what I mean is that I don't really get bored with any of it, and each distinct part of the set does its part exceptionally well.
What is probably the most interesting part of this set to me is that it still has an element of funk to it. Not in the sense of the really funky house, but just the attitude of the set is kind of funky...
Again... very well done Quadlow... You kick ass bro, hope we can make it out for a weekend sometime soon... |

I got your PM and will be sending a copy of it out next week. I just have to wait until the next batch is done by my duplicator since the cd"s are laser inscribed and it takes a day or two. |
