| What you do if you are buying from the US... ship your stuff to a UPS pickup place close to the boarder (For me its Blaine, Washington). Then bring the stuff across the boarder. Just make sure you hide the vinyls or take the plastic wrap off them. Same thing goes with any other equipment thats not to large (headphones, possibly cdjs, etc.). It will save you quite a bit of money! |

I get stuff sent to one of those cross-border places but there's no way I'd try to smuggle it back. It's just not worth it, if you get caught you could be hassled at the border in the future, maybe even the US side as well as Canada. :thepirate
Lots of items have no duty at all - just PST and FST. Which admittedly is a pain. I've never paid duty on music as they just look at the receipt and if there's a few USA tunes in there they don't bother with the duty, but there is duty on imported (Euro) music they could charge if they wanted.
Two or three times in the last year I've picked up music in the states, declared it at full value, and the Cdn customs waved me through with no payment required. Value about $65 US both times. But other times with only $50 USA they will charge me, if they feel like it.
This last time I went south to pick up my tunes in the USA, and the US Customs guy charged me $5 business fee as he considered I must be making money off this doing paid parties. I should be so lucky.

you could always hide part of your shipment and declare some of it. then if you do have to pay taxes, they might just tax what you declared and not bother searching, or just let you go if the value isnt very high.
i've come to like chemical. they seem to have a pretty good selection and decent prices. even if i pay customs, its still better to buy from them. i wasnt required to pay antything on my last order and it was around $60 canadian. |

its not worth it to save a few dollars to smuggle records. if you get caught, you will have a record in your file, you will be SEARCHED THOROUGHLY everytime. just pay the taxes.
this one time, they searched though my entire car, engine bay, looked into my subwoofer box... EVERYTHING and they nailed me on NOTHING but left me with a HUGE mess to clean up in my car. i was ing pissed and would much rather walk across the border and come back and declare it then to drive over and back now. |
