So yesterday I went in this second hand stuff store and I found a decibel meter.
I have wanted to get one for some time but never had a pressing need or the desire to spend serious money for one. I do a number of live concerts as well and decibel metering has been something I've needed to do in the past but never had the equipment.
Well this decibel meter I found cost me a whooping 39 euro 50 ( 47 dollars basically ) .... I check online and the thing used is worth 6000.
I have to say I'm a bit mad that the thing didn't come complete ( no manual, battery charger or usb cable ) but hey I got a bargain regardless.
It ends up that the thing is one of the most advanced on the market and the fact I found it used for such a cheap price sound fishy to say the least ( stolen :conf: ). I can actually plug it into a computer for live analysis and I can also save different measures on the unit directly. Awesome! ( yeah I'm a geek ).
For the nerds you can look here for more info http://www.testequip.com/cgi-bin/da...y.pl?Id=HES3454
Not exactly djing but still I'm mega happy .... I could always resell it and make a load of money if anyone buys it on ebay that is! |

It may well have been stolen, or may have been for example a dead persons estate clearance that ended up in store-who really cares?
Whatever- you have the reciept from the shop, and its yours now
Top bit of kit - nice find :) |

I never updated this thread but boy did it get spicier!
Several days after posting this thread I contacted the manufacturer to ask about getting the power supply, cables, etc.
The prices were outrageous:
- user manual : 105 euros HT
- usb cable : 30 euros HT
- dBSLM : 550 euros HT
- battery charger : 347 euros HT
( HT = without tax )
This MORNING at 9.30 guess who comes knocking at my door?
The POLICE! :stongue:
When I contacted the manufacturer I actually gave the serial number of the unit and they backtracked it ( without telling me ) to it's previous owners and it ends up that the unit was stolen!
The police had me go down to the station for questionning and for a deposition. They understood that I didn't steal the thing and believed me ( I had the bill and still had the stickers from the store on the unit ). The only problem and thing that really pissed me off is that they told me they could have charged me with possession of stolen goods!??? Bastards! Cops really never know went to stop with their authority and they even feel the need to scare the good guys out there.
And apparently to get reimbursed I have to get the money from the thief himself. These cops were having a laugh or what?
So now I'm out 39 euro 50 ( 47 bucks basically ) and no decibelmeter.
All in all an interesting start to this day. :stongue: |

how nice of the cops to threaten you w/possesion of stolen goods...
it's not like the place you bought it from specifically advised you of that minor detail, or had you sign something where you acknowledged you are buying something that is stolen.
sorry to hear how you got screwed out of 40euros, and having to deal w/the cops. |

I really wasn't bothered by being with the police because I had nothing to feel bad about but when the cop started pulling that garbage on me about charging with me possession of stolen goods well I did not appreciate that one bit.
I'm still feeling a bit ill at ease because of it.
