thoughts on tiesto last night

punjabi
last night was my first time seeing tiesto live. going in my expectations weren't all that high. i was pleasantly surprised by the lack of trainwrecks and all-around good mixing. track selection was pretty good, although i didn't approve of him killing my favorite one of the night (marcel woods - advanced) out of nowhere to end the show. all that being said, i am honestly shocked that he was voted #1 3 years in a row. having finally seen him live, i can say that i wouldn't even put in my top 5. pvd, sasha, JZ, digweed, armin, sander, etc. are all better IMO. i had a great time, and it was worth $60, but he's nowhere near #1.

yeah, last night....:disbelief having seen him around the globe...and my 3rd time in chicago... haven't seen him since june (where he was in a club)... but i must say, this was more of a concert than a party.... to listen to HIS tracks that he and co. produced..... especially after we heard olympic flame :o i was so bummed...

his set was TOO predictable b/c the crowd was well..uneducated about dance music and prolly only has heard his stuff, no one else's... he played some good tracks... too uplifting imo... i was writing all the trax in my phone and then my thing got erased...so here's what i remember:

mark norman - touchdown
mark norman - ID
airwave - air for life
allure - love we lost
marcel woods - advanced
palma solane - estuera
g&d - tracking treasure down
tiesto - flight643 (sigh...)
villa and coca - la noche
uhmm...and the rest i will remember later...

what was that ridiculous track he played, some american hit? i was like..omg.....sigh...

having said this: his set was TOO short, way too predictable...he needs to play small clubs again where he can improvise more and not think of the masses... but alas, that time has gone... would i go see him again? only if he plays in chicago @ millennium park..for an EXTENDED set...(ticket stubs claimed this was an extended set...pphwa)
i guess i got in a bad mood cuz ppl started throwing vodka red bulls from the balcony (or somwhere) and one of them landed exactly on my head and i was completely drenched, let alone the stinging the vodka did to my sweaty face...

But you know what, his goal is to bring dance music to everyone, and imo..he is accomplishing that for the next generation... I see ppl here in Chicago to start to accept electronic music WAY more than when I first moved here...

This was also my first time seeing Tiesto live, and based upon his set I also find it hard to believe he was #1 for that long. Even though the set was solid, it just did not meet my expectations. Overall the mixing was smooth, though it was probably not as good as Lauer's. His track selection was good, but not great. He was obviously pressed on time to finish his set so he cut "advanced" out of nowhere to my dissapointment as well, but still it was a good night.

how did the openers do?

The Killers- Mr Brightside(not sure what mix). I can appreciate the killers.

He did well.Too short 1:30??, but worth the trouble, Tracking Treasure Down was a nice suprise. He came did his job and left, what more do you want?
