I just wanted to voice my side on the word TRANCE and the evolution / changes I've noticed since I've been able to put the needle on the record (age 3...and I was sloppy...scratched my parents copy of "eye of the tiger" all to hell).
The point of this thead is to post up some of the songs that i think hit the mark with the word (or my emotions), that i would regard my big influences. TO get tht out of the way:
-Jean Michel Jarre (Oxygene)1979- album
-Alan Parsons project - Lucifer (song) -1980
-Rygar -N.E.S videogame (there was this wicked loop in the sound test...listened to it for extended periods)-1989
- Skinny Puppy - ="BITES", every album had some songs with some serious trance elements (and horror movie feelings) -(1985-95)
- 808 State : 90 (1992)
-Oliver lieb - The spirit of fear e.p. (1993)
-Barbarella (Sven Vath) Barbarella (1993)
-li-kwan - point zero (1994)
- Union Jack-Cactus (1994)
If I were to credit anybody creating "rave trance" music, I would give credibility to the UK'S "Rising HIgh Records"and germany's "Harthouse/ Eye Q".
Reasons why I like trance music...sucker for choir samples or angelic vocals...and the hypnosis feeling from repetition of unfolding sounds.
I would single handedly say that Oliver Lieb is the Reason Why I started to dj ANd i would credit Jam&Spoon for the song "Age of love" as greatest trance song of all time.
WHen did trance "switch"? IMHO, just short of the new millenium. The only song I can think of that sort of changed the definition of "Trance" into today's meaning would be Ferry Corsten's "Out of the blue"
For some history, I like this site
http://www.di.fm/edmguide/edmguide.html
It has some really good examples (and biased opinions on the genres)
What do u say "SUPREME TRANCE ADDICTS"? |

s0UThErN^sUn,
gabe,
post threads like this in the music discussion, or maybe even search and put it in one of the million "history of trance/trance music is different/here are some old trance songs" threads that people make every day. |
