my honest opinion?

those are all cool albums and tunes. there is a post about the history of trance or whatever almost every day.

when trance changed? what does that mean? well definitely not with out of the ing blue. a dope song produced by a guy on fire at a time when energetic uplifting trance was going of the richter scale? how did it change anything?

wheni think trance changed? a few things.

a) markus shulz changed trance music. mc-prog changed trance music. and i know im a bit of a hypocrit cause i like some cheesier tunes and i even make stuff that sounds like shulz. reasons why:

1. sidechained pad basslines
2. bell/chimey melodic bits
3. heavy heavy heavy compression

b) ferry corsten changed trance music. we can use out of the blue as an example. stick that next to right of way. notice any differences? i think we all do. his electro-y trancey style is vastly different from the gouryella-ish strings and snare rolls days.

c) james holden changed trance music. sure he doesn't make hands in the air euphoric breakdown tunes anymore, but like ferry, his style has changed IMMENSELY since the days of horizons and silver planet. and if you are gonna be a snob and say 'mr holden doesnt play trance music anymore he plays minimal techno thats not trance' well then take a ing pill and give yourself a message.

hope this contributes to gabes discussion

Agreed with Markus Schulz "changing" the way on the "new school" TRANCE PROG SOUND. ALong with Luke Chable, ALucard and more, there are some distinct similar characterics in this "newer" sound that is keeping the sound evolving.

I can't agree with James Holden changing "trance" music, solely because I would have to do some homework before I would agree, but yeah, his style has changed since I started paying attention to him. I would say that his song "Nothing" remix 2 has cut up vocals are arguable the best I've ever heard and if there was a vote for tracks to put on the "purest trance" songs of recent times, it would get my vote. (also to mention his remix of "Better Make Room").

Oh, and to guys who cared about me posting a discussion (in the discussions section) here's an event listing...

The new prog tunes being played by Schulz and Armin have weak melodies. There's no energy to them. My favorite producer (Andre Absolut) falls into this catagory of creating deadline basslines but he also sprinkles some pretty lush melodies over top of his basslines. I love listening to this stuff when I want to chill out but I wish there were more tracks being produced with more energy in the melodies that could rock a dance floor. Maybe I have to look for different labels and producers.

and that's what trance has developed into. Dominant basslines where people can smash their fists in the air and jump up and down...(Prime example that just happens to be on right now that I wanna perfect example... Above and Beyond vs. Andy Moor - Air For Life).

It's those soft simple meodies that drive a track to make you wanna dance... not the bassline. Which is the main reason I didn't like Air For Life.

As Angelo would say. "Backstreet's Back" :wtf:
