today i installed a rotary kit for my pmc55.

it's gonna take some getting used too... but it a lot more precise than the channel sliders.

the pmc55 has (had..) 60mm sliders, and they are really nice, and smooth... but the difference between the knobs and sliders is almost night and day.

now, to me, using the channel sliders was like using a ruler w/only inches to measure things.

now w/the knobs, it's like having the same ruler, but w/ 1/4" 1/8", 1/16", and 1/32".

it's just insane. now i have to learn how to work it properly.

hehehe... now i have the bring the x-fader out of retirement... :)

Hehe, I just got the 92 rotary, and it's amazing. The control I have with the rotaries is fantastic. In reality they are controlling the sound the same way as linear faders do, it's just smoother to make small and slow adjustments with a rotary then trying to move the fader up and down ever so carefully...

which curve are you using on the xone 92?

im plannin on sendin my nuo 5 down to a guy along the road from me to see if he can convert my nuo5 to rotary! does anyone know, if there arent any conversion kits avialable, is it easy enough to just stick parts from a different mixer into it?

im guessing for someone who knows a lot about electronics it should be easy enough!

Curve on the 92? Only the crossfader has adjustable curve. The rotaries tend to be fairly linear (versus exponential) on their curves.

As for below, I know at least one person did a home conversion of a Denon DN-X1500 to a rotary mixer. Basically you remove the slider controls and add pots, but you have to have the right type of pots, have to have room for them in the case, and need to modify the faceplate.

yah, i knew the bit about installing a rotory fader instead, but i don't get the rest of it, going on about 60mm sliders, and the relationship between knobs and a ruler...

i still don't understand what all the fuss is about, but i guess i'll never know until i've used a rotory mixer :)

Rotary dials, very interesting. I would love to try one of these out. I'm betting the feel of the mix would be so much smoother. I think its time I buy a new mixer!

the difference is INSANE! it's like going from spinning on beltdrives (ultra-low torque/wobbly pitch) then stepping up to technics!

i have to re-learn how to work the mixer! the same way i had to learn how spin on techs after gave my belts the boot.

so much more precise... a zillion time smoother especially w/eq...

i thought the faders on the pmc55 were awsome, but they are nothing compared to the rotary kit. it's just ttttoooooo mmmmuuuuccccchhhhh...

they will last longer and sound better too, as the dust cant get in the gaps!

sometimes if im spinning, either in my room, the radio station, on someone elses' equip or at a bar, and i want that rotary feel (sometimes its just way better for certain mixes), i turn the gain all the way down, and then when im about to mix in, i put the up-fader to 100% and then use the gain as a rotary fader. similar concept, just (usually) alot more sensitive. for people wondering what the difference is like, try that.

razzi.
