| Hey guys, i'm thinking of expanding my construction company to Vancouver. I've got family there that could run the local office. How do things look in the city right now? Is construction booming? Do you see lots of stuff being built? Condo buildings, shopping plazas, stores, etc? |

well, right now i am going to BCIT for an industrial electronics pre-apprentiship program and everybody is talking about how electricians are needed badly and are over-worked because of lack of skilled trades people. i hear alot that construction is booming and more and more jobs are being created. its probably because of the olympics in 2010 that everyone is freakin' out and tons of stuff is getting built.
in any case, im sure you wouldnt have much trouble finding jobsites that need construction help

there were a few large projects over the past two years that dominated the resource pool, and now, its mostly small projects. with the olympics, over the next 5 years there will be many many projects.
in terms of housing, there are always housing projects. there's a few going on right now, and will continue to be so, but not in great number as open space inside the lower mainland is becoming a premium.
depending upon the specifics of your company, i'd do more research to see if its cost effective. |
