I don't care ... vinyl, CD ... it's the music that matters, not hte medium.
While I do agree that vinyl can sound better than CDs, it's kind of hilarious that I'm sure some people here who say the same and how they can tell the difference don't even know how to handle their vinyl properly. They wipe their ass with their hands and then proceed to wipe their hands all over their vinyl. And how about setting the tracking force of the tonearm so high that every time their records are being played, a new groove is being carved into them, resulting in *snap* *crackle* *pop* remixes?
Quit your posing and give it a rest. |

You know what else is ironic? A vinyl elitist like yourelf who goes by the name "Digital Pimp" lol Sorry, Kris but you set yourself up for that one :p
Seriously though. I own 1300 records now. I've purchased them over the course of about 5 years. During that time my musical interest has spanned everything from breaks and dnb to house, progressive, techno, and trance. I have releases from all of these genres and then some. I still love all of these genres, and unless I feel like spending a heap of cash every week just so I can keep up with them all, then I'd be pretty hooped if there were no legal download sites out there.
From a practical standpoint, how many times has some high/drunk person bumped the decks and ruined your vinyl mix or ruined the track for the crowd? Doesn't happen with digital, does it? Now, how many DJs out there have had someone come up to them and request a specific track? A really good track, which you love too, but you didn't pack it in your record bag/box/milk crate because you only had room for 50 records? This is why I play both mediums. Because now I can bring the majority of my library with me without having to lug about 3 record bags and 14 crates of music at an approximate weight of 25kg each. It was bad enough moving a few weeks ago and having to lug it all about!
In this fashion I have supported my local record stores, supported the artists I like, and supported both mediums of play. On a side note, alot of artists make more money when you buy mp3s than if you puchased their vinyl. There are fewer production costs associated with mp3s and vinyl costs a load to manufacture and distribute (just like cds!) Moreover, big name djs who are constantly on tour can't exactly wait around for new promos to be sent to them via mail, nor would they want to carry more and more records with them at each subsequent tour date. So mp3s make sense for them!
YES, there is a slight drop in quality when playing cds/mp3s BUT there is also a drop in quality whenever you play the same piece of vinyl, time after time. I will often receive mp3s from other djs aswell, often times before their release. Of course, I'll burn them and play them out! If they're good then other people should get to hear them too, right? And if they're THAT good, 9 times out of 10 I will still go out and buy the vinyl. Burning my collection to cd or purchasing mp3s is simply a way of making life easier for me and being able to better cater to a given crowd and to make that one person really happy who asked me to play their favorite tune of the moment. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing those passionate people going off to great music (and they don't care whether I played it off vinyl, cd, serato, or Lithium's mom) And regarding actual performance, if you can only get the crowd interested in watching you do the 'wikky wikky' w/ turntables and not cds or other means, then you're just boring. Period. Find other ways to entertain the crowd, seriously. Armin puts on a far better performance with cds than he ever did with vinyl (anybody who saw him last time he was in Vancouver and Toronto can attest to that).
Yes, I'm sure I'm going to get ripped apart now. I don't really care. Just my 2 cents on the matter. Just to clarify, I don't think cds are BETTER than vinyl. I play both and with good reason. But any vinyl elitist who doesn't at least aknowledge that there are BENEFITS to using a digital medium is just plain ignorant. |

:stongue: :stongue: true true eh, never even thought of that!
I will say there are benefits to both. For sure, but I would never put a DJ down for using only cd's! But as vinyl only DJ... I have to stick by it.
And one other thing! And dare I say this, but... sometimes I think if I had the cash, I'd probably invest in 1 cd turntable :o :o :o
I'm not ignorant to the fact that this is the future, and yes, I'm sure the day will come where I step into a club, and behold, cddj's are all that's at my disposal.
I believe I'm in what they call the DENIAL STAGE :o
But for now, I still love my vinyl!!! :D :D
Come to think of it, I'm gonna have to ship all my records to Australia when I move there... :whip: |

a lot of people have been commenting on how quality is different between vinyl and digital.
.flac files are lossless in quality. meaning there is no difference between them and the original master. which means... they pwn vinyl :P
something to think about... |
