ok, i enjoyed your mixes very very much. glad i checked em out. "luminous" especially. i thought it had better track selection and 'theme'. what i mean by theme is basically consistency of style. mixing and levels are spot on so no need going into that.
ok so with luminous i think everything was done very well. track selection was near perfect imo (really like that Markus mix of Beautiful Things :)). the only out of place song i thought was Sounds Rushing, maybe because i thought you didn't mix it in too well. the keys are off a bit with it but that's not what bothered me really because that track is very hard to key-match. no i think that you tried to blend the track in too much and use it as a more chill tune when imo it is more of a high-energy track. it is better to sort of "attack" the listener with that one. anyway great mix here.
with affliction i found it fun and interesting to listen to but i found it too diverse of sound to have a lasting or higher impact than just a good mix of trance. the track selection is very good and the energy is good but i didn't see a 'theme' of this one as much as i did 'luminous'.
one other thing is that it's pretty obvious your concept of "light and dark" wasn't something that drove these mixes. when you download them then names are 'AustinScottXMRadioMix" (=luminous) and "Demo Final" (=affliction). which tells me that the first was made for a radio show (also the 60 min length gives it away as well) and the second one was a demo. i could be wrong about this but the mixes themselves don't share any real particular "light and dark" characteristics respectively. so when listening the effects of this promotion for your "double disc release" falls flat. not too big of a deal but it kinda made me unsatisfied overall because i was interested in the concept (even if it isn't a new one :p).
ok so a couple of good mixes here and glad you shared. a real fun listen. very above average mixing and progression but when it comes to achieving a 'theme' with your "double disc", it doesn't. |

very solid review. I appreciate the feedback and that is exactly what I was looking for. You were correct in that the first mix was done for a radio show and the other done specifically for a new demo.
I'm glad you enjoyed each mix, I had a hard time doing contrasting themes to hte mixes given the time constraints I had to do it in.
In any case I really do appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you listened to them.
Thanks again :)
