Hi everyone and thanks for viewing my thread.
I've shared a few trance tracks here in the past as trance has been all I really attempted to produce even though psytrance is my first true love. About a month ago I made the decision to turn towards producing psytrance and follow what I've been wanting to do for some time now.
I just finished my first psytrance track and would like some feedback, especially from those of you that like psy. I know psytrance is not everyone's cup of tea but if you could listen to my attempt and hear it for what its worth, I would be very grateful. I'm really trying to find out what I want to do and what direction I should go in and your feedback will help me get to that place.
Thank you all for your time. :)

Thanks for the comments guys! :)
If this is not psy, then what would you classify this as?
Others please speak up I'm very curious now. Psy to me is distinguishable by its snappy kick, the rolling, quick bassline, and crazy noises among other things. Lots of quick buildups and dropins. I would classify my track as fullon psytrance. I still haven't quite figured out the art of the psy bassline but this is my first psy track and was a learning experience. I'm going to put this clip on the Isratrance forums to see what they think.
Thanks again for the comments PlasticSoul and Sparkunian. ;) |

| quality is awesome, everything sounds great. However - to me its a little 'happy' for psytrance - i think it should me more dark and sinister sounding. But certainly sounds awesome |

To my ears/ party scene this is consistant with a lot current psy trance. the kick, melodies and other samples are what I would slot right into psy.
The secondary melodies remind me a lot of older astral projection stuff.
I'll try and comment on the quality a little later on since I have to run out the door right now.
If psy is your thing then keep doing it, and don't let genre names get in your way. I think some of the coolest psy out there right now is the stuff getting influences from so many other styles and incorporating them/ breaking down the genre walls.
(ie the rock guitars found in Astrix and I.M. tracks or the carribean influence in the Sub6 track 7th son) |

IMO, this is a bit too... clean to be psy. To many strictly tonal elements. Psy actually takes a lot of cues from techno, if it helps, which is why its producer's alliance is grouped with tech trance. Your elements all sound like Uplifting elements applied to the psy musical style. It actually almost reminds me of Four Horsemen, which seemed to be a similar style.
You've got one or two cool sounds, but they aren't enough.
I can't really give you much advise on how to get the sound you want, though. Sorry. |

Sounds like you composed some techtrance using psy sounds. Psy has to be very abstract, dark, and strange.
Track is very good though - whatever you wanna call it ;) |

Thanks for all the responses and feedback everyone. I'm going to keep trying in the direction of psy and take into account what you have all said moving forward.
One thing I'd like to say though is that there really are no rules for psy. I'm not sure what kind of psy you all listen to but not all psy is dark and strange. I listen to tons of psy and it varies greatly with styles all across the board. Some of my favorite producers are acts like Protoculture, Electro Sun, and Cyber Cartel to name a few. IMO I would not consider their work to be dark at all. In contrast, I think they produce a nice uplifting mix of psy and trance. Take one of my current favorite tracks, Electro Sun - Faded Memories for example. Its driving and beautiful, not dark in the least. That is the style of psy I'm attempting to produce and the direction I want to head in.
Thanks again for listening. :) |

I was just listening to Protoculture- Melody Machine as I read your post.
Before that on my playlist was a cool drum and bass psy track.
I love the melodies and rythem lines that can be integrated into psy and how it classically has the balls to break down genre lines and take the best parts from so many different styles of music (electronic or otherwise). Enigmatic by Electro Sun is another good example of great use of melody.
Keep on having fun with it and who cares what other styles we sleep with in the end if it creats an awesome track. (I've been personally pushing more breakbeat psytrance this past year) |

| Great track you got there, but it's not really psy though. I'd try to make the sound darker, and the twist the melodies a bit. You used samples that I haven't heard for ages, this sounds like a really old psy track. |

This is psy just as much as Yahel or Electro Sun is psy trance. Just thats its more morning style as opposed to night time.
Plenty of this style coming out of Israel at the moment.
Great track, very squeaky clean. Synth programming is very solid. I think the bass could be more emphasised though in the mix. Melody is beautiful and could even be driven harder with another layer at the peak I think.
Wicked stuff! |
