The Smirnoff Experience, The One And The Only...What An Amazing Experience For Toronto To Host! Never before have I ever experienced
such an amazing back to back sets of hard progressive sounds rocking the Guvernment & the Kool Haus. Green Velvet Definitely played a set I'll never forget, but I must say once again Dave Ralph steals the show. Thank you so much to the people who brought this to Toronto! |

The hype:
Saturday night, Sao Paulo had its version of the Smirnoff Experience. All week, I was very hyped up for this party. The tickets, which were hard to come by, were free and complimented by an open bar. So what could be better than a FREE party with Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, Jonh Kelly and Tom Middleton?
The party:
THe Production was simply amazing. Lights...amazing. Three huge screens in the background, and the decoration was fantastic. However, none of this mattered, since there was no vibe whatsoever. The ppl simply weren't dancing... Too many ppl walking around trying to pick up girls and getting drunk (probably because of the open bar thing) and it seemed to have killed the vibe.
The sets:
I got there around 2:00 AM, when John Kelly began his set. Since I had never seen him, I didn't know what to expect. He was able to get the crowd going and played a pretty hype set, highlights including: iio- Rapture, Marco V - Simulated, and Sharpside - Wave Cruisin' (awesome track!). Nick Warren then followed and he was quite good...however, it didn't make sense for him to come after John Kelly since ppl were so hyped after all that trance and Nick's progressive set, which started kinda slow simply didn't fit in. However, it was pretty deep and filled with stuff I never heard before. I loved it when the played Satoshi's mix of Papua New GUinea... one of my top tracks for the year. By the end of his set, i was so tired that and pissed from being bumped into so many times, that I decided to leave.
Overall, I guess it was nice to see some talent I hadn't yet seen, but I must say, the party as a whole was more hype and could have a been a whole lot more. |
