I read this entire thread and everyone has made some vital points. In regard to the mass transit issue I think that if we adopted the mass transit systems in Germany it would be awesome. I never needed to drive anywhere while I was there for a month. It was very clean, you felt completely safe and it was affordable. Another thing regarding the gas prices. I have lived in Atlanta all my life and one thing that always happens in times of crisis everyone freaks out. I understand that the pipeline breaking did have an effect on how much gas we had. But how many people bought gas that didn't need it? Probably a lot and that caused an even greater shortage. I am lucky to at least be in Arizona right now where gas prices have only gone up .15 total. People in Atlanta just need to learn how to chill!
Ok I'm done ranting.
til later,

I totally agree with that. I don't know how many people i saw on wednesday afternoon sitting in line at the pumps with 5 gallon gas jugs waiting to fill up everything they could. I had a huge argument with my mother over the same fact after i saw 6 filled 5-gallon jugs in her garage. If every one of these people who ran out and did this had held off on stockpiling, then the possibility of such a large shortage might not have been such a large issue. There would still have been a shortage, but probably not to such an extent. The people stockpiling ended up creating an even bigger problem themselves. |

In the end, the scare was premature. A smug smirk goes to those who spent a great deal of time waiting to stock up on overpriced gas. My wallet weeps at the 2.8/gal I paid for gas this weekend. |
