resident evil 1 wasn't bad, number 2 had its moments too.
my impressions before seeing the trailer were that they were totally going to job this one. doom has one of the largest fan bases in terms of longevity in the gaming industry today. not many gamers who have gamed beyond today's giants like world of warcraft, can say they haven't heard of doom, let alone played.
i had even heard it was going to take place on earth, rather than mars, where a lot of the original plot originates.
after having seen the trailer, i think its the best they can come up with based on a number of points.
1. they took a lot of heat for the rumor of it being on earth, so either the rumor was false or they switched it back.
2. demons from hell on mars planning to invade earth and turn it to a corporeal hell? too many people with religious based obligations probably would have made a fuss.
so they pulled a resident evil type idea to incorporate 'imps' and the zombies and such. not a bad touch, though disappointing in terms of the true basis of the storyline (its not like this is based on a book though, where deviations can be critically shot down or praised point for point).
all in all, looks better than i was expecting and may be worthwhile seeing. =) |
