That boy is dancin' fool! (AKA JXL Review Thread)

DJ RJT
Finally back home in Point after two long days of travel, but it was well worth it.

Vision was great last night... There wasn't a huge turnout by any means what-so-ever, which was a little disheartening, but thinking back on it, it was damn nice to not leave Vision an absolute sweaty mess.

As for the gentlemen we saw play last night, it was definitely a solid night of music. It was real nice to see Johnny Chaos and Dimitri tag up for the first hour and a half we were there, and I thought they both did quite well. There were a few hiccups in the works, but both of those guys were definitely very profressional, and any of the quote "hiccups" that occurred were worked back very quickly into quality mixes. Always good to see solid openers, and since Ferry C was the last show I saw at Vision, my opinion of openers was definitely left on a somewhat sour note ;).

And as far the Junkie himself goes, this was the second time I got to see him in 2 months, and the first time I was in any kind of condition to actually review his performance. As stated before, the man can put on a show, and while many people complain that his sets don't really switch that much from show to show, I still thought the energy he brought was great, and all in all it was an amazing show. Hearing "Breezer" and "World on Fire" out made my night, and there were definitely more than a few tracks I hadn't heard him perform before that I was just loving, particularly the second to last track he played... Watching that guy play the air Violin totally straightfaced to a crowd of just cracky looking kids is one of the best things I've ever seen.

Didn't see too many TA's out last night ;) It was good to see you again Yuris, and too bad we missed you down there James.

This was definitely a VERY good night out...

Peace,

Rob

+1

after wanting to see JXL for over a year now, i was very impressed and thoroughly entertained by him. standing on the 2nd floor balcony overlooking the stage and the crowd (which was full of energy, btw... love that!) was a great place to be all night. it was also pretty cool watching him work off a sampler and synth rather than decks and a mixer like most DJs.

nice meeting you Yuris, you looked like you were having a great time! :)

ahh, I was waiting of a review :)

wow.. had my gig and after 2 I was driving towards Vision when all of a sudden my 2000 jetta decided to overheat on me... I thought, well okay, I will wait for ten minutes, listen to some tunes before I hit the road again... turned out that the 2nd time I tried to drive my car overheated AGAIN..... bwhaaa, had to miss JXL and I was acutally on my way... took AAA 1.5 to get to me...got home when it was sunny out...ridiculous....

well, glad to hear y'all had a great night!

Thanks for the review, Rob & Lucid. Sucks I had to miss it. I got an illness probably something similar to Tony that started on Saturday, had a temp of 101.7/chills/body aches by early that evening, and didn't get out of bed again until Sunday at 3pm. Feeling a little better now but really bummed that I had to miss the show. Sounds like it was awesome! Sorry I missed you guys. Hope to catch you soon out-and-about.
