After a long time the new single of Hiver and Hammer "Fusion" will be finally released... on Somatic Sense Rec. This and some others brandnew tracks are part of the following episode of tranceUNITED Supreme on DI.fm - check the interview with Mario Hammer...

tranceUNITED:
Hi Mario. There will be many first class events this summer, like Nature One. Will you be at this event?
Mario Hammer:
Hi everybody. I will DJ on saturday 06th August at Nature One and on the Armada floor.

tranceUNITED
What is your opinion that the focus of Sensation in Germany more on House music was?
Mario Hammer:
I think it is a shame that The Line Up for Sensation White was focused more on House music. A Markus Schultz doesn't really spin Progressive House music, but he would have fit a lot better to this event. I think the focus on House has to do with the fact that the promoters want to be safe and not reley on a trance lineup, since trance is not as widely recognized at this moment. The reason for this is the bad commercial trance that has been around the last years.
The people that really respect the electronic music are only a small number, which is really a pity. However Sensation White will be full and we will rock with House, Trance or Hip Hop music. The Sensation White is a great visual experience.

tranceUNITED:
Are you guys focused only on trance music or are you able to go in a different musical direction?
Mario Hammer:
No not at all. If that had been the case, then trance would of become boring quickly and it would have been to much repetition. The variety in electronic music gives us the chance to go in many directions. With many different projects in the last years, we were able to do many things. We produce projects like Elastique Culture, or together with Ayla, DJ Errik, Alex Christensen or MInd in a box. Later we decided to focus only on Hiver & Hammer.

tranceUNITED:
When did you guys meet?
Mario Hammer:
I met Patrick eight years ago. I had just ended my apprenticeship as a Merchant in a Osnabrucker Studio. There I was taught from the ex guitarist from Heinz Rudolf Kunze and Patrick had just finished his studies. At that time, Patrick moved from Buhl to Hamburg and we started our music agency Tune Town Productions.

tranceUNITED:
Your new single "Fusion" was already Future Favorite in Armin Van Buuren's ASOT Radio show. Why did it took a long while to be released?
Mario Hammer:
"Fusion" is a neverending story. Blank & Jones had a track on thier first CD-DJ Mix compilation called Andromedia "Fusion". Aa a result, we got many emails asking us where one could get the track. A short while later, we released the Hiver & Hammer "Step by Step" and 5 Million Miles. The interest for "Fusion" continued at this time, and we decided to rerelease "Fusion" as Hiver & Hammer. We made a version for our "Substance" Album and for the Midem 2004. As a result, Armin van Buuren started playing the track a lot. Then some months passed and nothing happened, since Record labels were having problems with sales. It would of brought nothing had we released 'Fusion" then, so we waited and drank tea.
At the same time, we did a remix for M.I.K.E and he wanted to remix our "Fusion". However during the remix phase, the brother of M.I.K.E died. So he told us, if he could do something for the next Hiver & Hammer track. So we were at the begining again, and now Super 8 were on the top of our remix list. This also took some months, since Super 8 were working on their album and needed more time for our remix.
When the remix was done, we wanted to release "Fusion" on a CNC/EDM, but then we got an offer from Ministry Of Sound. They wanted to know if it could get a worldwide release. This occured on the same day as the Vinyls were going to get pressed. So we waited some more and we finially realized that it is not worth it working with German record labels. The only labels we would consider working with are Euphonoc, Silly Spider, or Vandit. Ministry did not want to make any money. Finially "Fusion" will be released on Somatic Sense, Holland and their will be a remix. It will be a surprise. It will be released sometime this year.
There is a nice saying, " Sometimes it takes a long time until something is finished well.

tranceUNITED:
What did you do in the last year. You have been around for a while, but there has not been much coming from you recently?
Mario Hammer:
We recognized that we have remixed many well known artists in the dance scene, but we neglected our own Hiver & Hammer project. We then released 5 Million Miles. So since then, two years have gone. In this time, we had the problems with releasing "Fusion". But we were not inactive. We released our Album "Substance" and CNC/EDM and in November 2004 our remix album 2 Faces with our best remixes. I would like to thank Sven Schaefer for his album idea. We also released the DJ Convention Restart 01 on Silly Spider records. One must remember, that the German market is struggling, because of MP3s and that was the reason that it took a year to release the DJ Convention. We split from Universal records in this time. This took a lot of time, work, patience and nerves and we needed a new masterplan.

tranceUNITED:
There were rumors of a split after Mario started to produce tracks with Andrew Bennett. Is there some truth to this?
Mario Hammer:
On behalf of the nice rumors, people seem to always be united. Like with every other music family, there are always ups and downs. Everyone that knows us, knows that we have a brotherly relationship. In the last months, I produced a lot of music alone and with many other people.
I started to realize that some colleagues used my trust and I made a lot of new experiences away from Hiver & Hammer.I am very lucky that I have an equal minded studio partner with Patrick. Patrick and I have a great relationship.
I produced together with Andrew and with Mellow D in the studio, the tracks "Language" and "Baltic Sea".I moved into my new studio this past January. Andy also mixed our first DJ Convention 01 Restart/05 CD and he is a young talented producer. Our work in the studio is a lot of fun. There will also be a new Hammer & Bennett Track called "Beauty And The Beast. We have also remixed the new Armin van Buuren track "Shivers". I don't know if the new Hammer & Bennett single will be a success, but time will tell.
What does it mean to be successful? You can't really make any more steps with the Dance charts of today. For me to be successful, I need to be able to keep producing long term and be able to live from the music and be able to produce the type of music I want.

tranceUNITED:
What are your musical goals for 2005?
Mario Hammer:
First the long awaited Hiver & Hammer single "Fusion" will be released on the Dutch label Somatic Sense that will feature an original mix and a second remix. Last monday the Hammer & Benett "Language" was released on Armada/Coldharbor NL. I will release a new own production called "Deep Blue Ocean/ Heaven" on Armada. A new young talented singer has just sung vocals on Ibiza for "Heaven".It will be worth it to take a listen.
"Deep Blue Ocean "originally was planned as the intro for the DJ Convention Restart 02. But Markus Schultz has signed it to Armada. We will continue with our DJ Convention series. We will have a new interesting guest, after we had Perry O Neil for the 02. There will also be a new project called Hammer & Funabashi, which will get my total concentration. We will release an album end of 2005/2006. We have finished five tracks. One track is called "Daylight" and it will be released on the cult label of Markus Schultz "Coldharbour". I have my own radio program "Planet Rock", which can be heard every second tuesday every month on www.trancesphere.com / www.etn.fm

tranceUNITED:
Are you old school producers using hardware, or have you gone to software?
Mario Hammer:
I have to be honest, that we have completly gone to software. Formerly I used all hardware Synthesizers and I was a collector. We had a museum, but not to look at, but for touching and using. The equipment has changed so much in the last years, that it made no more sense to use the machines, so I decided to separate from them.
I still have some hardware, but most is recorded with G5. It sounds so easy, but it is. I don't need to save so much anymore or have to tune the keyboards. Now everything is done automatically. I hardly need to do anything. The computer does the work. I can find the track and it sounds exactly like it did the day before and nothing has been changed. Software was a great invention. The opinions are surely varied, but for me it is most important that the track sounds good. If a sound was done internally or externally is not important.

tranceUNITED:
What equipment do you use and what are the duties in the studio?
Mario Hammer:
Since years we have been working with Logic and a Mac G5-2,5 double processor and a internal powercore card. Here we can find and work with the best sounds. The standard trance sounds have become very used and boring for me. With the new sound and plug ins, a new musical trend has been started. I do the sound collages and since I have problems with the beats, I allow Patrick and the other guys to handle that.

tranceUNITED:
Do you want to produce an album?
Mario Hammer:
We have produced two albums. Hiver & Hammer "Substance" which was released in 2004 and our 2 Faces Remix album that was released also in 2004. The first Hammer&Funabashi album is being produced and will be released begining of 2006.

tranceUNITED:
What are your long term goals?
Mario Hammer:
We want to give electronic music new ideas. That is what gives us a lot of energy. We want to continue to have some success with our projects internationally and continue to improve our standing and be able to do our job for a long time.

tranceUNITED:
You should have deserved a Remix award for all your remixes. Have you recieved an award?
Mario Hammer: We were named best Dance act in Greece in 2002 or 2003, but we did not take it very seriously. That same year, we did three remixes for Faithless and did remixes for Kosheen, Armin van Buuren, Gouryella, Holden & Thompson and 4-Strings. However we were never nominated at the DJ Meeting and Pulsedriver won the best remixer award.. We got little support in Germany, moreover we were met with greed and envy.

tranceUNITED:
With what acts would you like to work with?
Mario Hammer:
Many years ago it was always my dream to work with Vince Clarke from Yazoo/Erasure. Now I would like to work with Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin or Oliver Lieb. I have been playing the records of Oliver Lieb since many years. For me, Oliver Lieb is the German M.I.K.E/Push, because he has his own musical style. It would interest me to see the new electronic music melts of Sven Vath and Richie Hawtin, since they both come from a different musical backround. I am sure that a great hammer track would be produced.

tranceUNITED:
What do you do in your spare time?
Mario Hammer:
In the few free hours that I have, I usually do sports and spend time with my girlfriend, friends, family and fans.

tranceUNITED:
Thank You very much for the interview.
Mario Hammer:
Thank you also for the nice chat and good luck in the future.
