pittsburgh is better, but as we've seen with most teams that buy up a lot of players, they lack the chemistry that other teams that keep together a core team lack. i admit a lot of their acquisitions are great, and they have improved dramatically, but after tarnstrom, crosby and fluery, they haven't drafted hugely (i think they have one of the russians too from last year's draft). leclair is injury prone and aging, reccehi is aging, lemieux retired once already. palfy was a good move, but can he put up the same numbers when he isn't logging over half the game's ice time (LA's top unit and only unit)?
i think chicago, edmonton and calgary have done the better moves. they pulled in a small number of good solid players and kept their youthful core together, so in a couple of years all three will be dangerous. the only totally crap team that hasn't done anything is washington. welcome to last place.. again. but we'll see next year when the RFA age drops to i think 28-30, and to 6-8 seasons. can't remember where its at now (i think 31 and 8 seasons). |
