| recently i saw a top ten dj live and during one of his tracks he seemed to stop it on a certain beat. The song had vocals and the last word was like 'day' and he managed to get the CDJ to repeat the word 'day' for like 20 seconds and slowly he made it faster and faster and then did something and the song returned to normal. Im guessing he used the pitch to increase the speed but how did he hold the track on that beat/word? If its through looping how excatly do you do that on the MK2's and how did he do it soo fast? |

either on a cdj, an efx 500 or one of the pioneer mixers (500/600)
loop the beat on the cdj then reduce the length
or using one of the other methods grab the last beat in the echo with feedback set to max then increase the speed- then drop the original back in |

| its' really easy to loop with 1000mk2's. loop in and loop out. just hit the one button before they say day and hit the loop out button just as the word finishes up. it will repeat just like you said it did. flip the pitch range to wide and then speed it right back up. hit loop exit to let the song go back to it's orinal start point |

The nice thing about CDJs is that you can store loops on the memory card which gives you time to sit around and home and get them flawless.
My guess is that the DJ had this loop stored and excecuted it just at the right moment then kept on inceasing the pitch with the master pitch/tempo button selected (to keep the vocal from going all chipmonk), then when the time came just hit the tempo reset button which brings it back to 0% regardless of where the pitch slider is.
Or something similar.
Cheers

| how do you store loops in the memory? I know how to store the quick save points under A B C. I've never looked into saving and recalling a loop. |

here is a great way to get a great effect.
i use it on an opening track by lisa lashes, what can you do for me. really sounds good.
start the loop at the beginning of your vocals, end it at the end. adjust your in/out points if you have to. switch to the wide tempo setting, master tempo off.
-100% pitch.. start bringing the pitch up slowly. the vocals will sound like they're just starting up... once you're past 0% on the pitch and still climbing, hit your out adjust, and use the jog wheel to make the loop gradually smaller while still making it faster. once you get up to +100% or thereabouts, your loop should be roughly a third its original size...return your pitch or hit tempo reset, and hit exit loop.
really does sound nice, i should do a recording when i'm back in my studio. |
