jolene - back up all your media, mp3, data, etc to a dvd.
round up all your program cds including windows.
format c: and reinstall windows, install programs, and restore all data
itll take about 1 afternoon of boredom and it will pay you back handsomly with a smooth running system =)
seriously.. reinstalls should be at least a yearly thing for everyone |

Yeh baby. "clean install! clean install! clean install!!"
Except... my clean install takes about 2 days due to apps insisting on storing their data in obscure dir's :whip: |

Do a fresh install once, then use a program called norton ghost, to make an 'image' of your new, fresh, smooth running system onto some DVD's (preferebly.. or alot of CD's).
And anytime it starts to run like crap again, just backup all your data that wasn't there when you made the image, and use ghost to reload everything, just the way it was, takes a tenth of the time of actually reinstalling everything.
Then just copy everything back, simple. |

seems like you've used the app Dave.
Norton Ghost works on the partition size right? so if you have a 40 GB partition with Windows and some appz on it will NG image the entire partition or just the portion that contains the data/install? any way to isolate it so it does?
from experience it's a pain in the ass when NG requires a load of blank discs because it's imaging the whole drive/partition.
So essentially you'd need to create a small partition for the windoews install plus any essential appz (office, antivirus, other) and then image that.
Now if I did that... say...
Partition A: 4 GB - windows + office + other
Partition B: 36 GB - remainder of 40 GB hdd
and I image A, when I go to reimage does that mean that I will lose B?
if this doesn't make any sense oh wells. |
