how to unbend bent/warped records

its been REALLY hot the last few days and few of the records that i had sitting in the back of the crate has bent like the brim of a cowboy hat and its literally throwing the needle off the record when played. is there a safe, proven way to unbend or reshape these records so that it is at least playable?

since its the heat that did it, i figured i could weigh it down on a flat surface and leave the whole thing in the trunk of my car for a day and hope that the record flattens out somewhat. but before i do, i wanted to get some opinions. i read about sticking it in the oven for a little bit, but seriously...

other practical suggestions are very much appreciated :D

well if the record wont play then it will make for good practice. if you cant stand the chance of making that record worse go buy some crap cheep records then warp and try to UNwarp them :P

if it's still hot just lay all of your records flat down on the ground (warped ones on the bottom) and if i'm correct the wieght of the records will straighten them out.

get some heavy glass (2 sheets) and put the record in between them in the hot sun.. ive never tried it.. but a simple search on this site came up with that!

i personally use a hairdrier- heat it until its bendable by hand, bend it back as much as possible- then leave it under something very heavy straight away until it cools.
sometimes comes out looking like a popadom even though its still playable- but as long as it plays i couldnt care less

mmm... hairdryer...

i think it would be safer to heat the whole record up to spread the distortion throughout the record instead of just bending one spot of the record. its hot enough today. i think i'm gonna set it out in between two wooden panels and weight it down with my amp :)

anyways, its just calibro and getting away with it, but whiteroom's pretty bent too and i really like that record. :(
