I've not used it, but I've read reviews in Future Music and they completely rave about it. Very user friendly, very powerful, and they even go so far as to suggest that live's method of sequencing and arranging may well become the standard.

I'm very interesting atm of trying out the demo, because it sounds like it could be a great tool for production (and not just doing live sets like sasha is doing )

i believe pendulum has been playing with it, so he'll be able to comment.

Doesnt support mp3's is a pain. Apparently updates will allow this in the future.

there is a demo you can try out, i downloaded it but couldn't be arsed doing anything with it. the tracks have to be .wav format i think and you have to go through each one and set some kind of waypoints or something in them so that could be a pain. otherwise just try the demo and see what you think! :)
Nyquist_Theorem
wtf live is brilliant. try this multiple choice cosmo-style test.

a) if you've used cubase before and thought it was cool
b) you've used cubase before and found it too confusing
c) you own a computer with an ASIO2-compliant soundcard and want to 'make da beats'
d) you have any interest at all in using your computer to make tunes

if you answered yes to a, give yourself 5 points. if you answered yes to b, give yourself 3 points. if you answered yes to c, give yourself 25 points. if you answered yes to d, give yourself 7 points.

0 or less points: ableton is not for you. stick with winamp.

1 or more points: the force is strong in you! good to hear. now, you should buy ableton live. in fact, don't just buy ableton live, but PM nyquist_theorem, who has not only spent many hours with it, but who will also very likely be able to sell it to you at as good a price or better as anyone else in Australia. ;)

don't even bother with cracked copies, they will work for a period of time but then create major problems. Ableton Live 4.1 is worth every penny.

I hold this software in the highest esteem. I also bought and read a book called "Ableton Live 4 Power" which I have read a couple of times, in addition to the manual several times too so I have my head around some of the possibilities. Some downsides I find are little things like no recently used projects in the file menu, unable to edit multiple clips, just really little timesaver things that will be fixed in future versions. The main problem (or not?!?) is it has hindered my abiltity to focus on arranging as there's way too much fun to be had in the session view. For instance, the grain delay- What a distraction?!? These tools are so incredibly intuitive, powerful, and useful for being sonically original, that they suck all your time away in experimenting, that is if you are as vulnerable and weak as I am!!! So that's the only problem I have with it if you'd call it a problem!

Will be getting a beefy laptop shortly too... then: :eyespop:
