DJing and Production - 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS.

The best DJ/Producer combos are ones that start as DJs FIRST, then get into producing.

I think they make better tracks too, because they have a feel for the dance floor.

I also think it depends on the scene, in Australia it dosn't matter what you do, cause producing your own tracks isn't going to get you that much more respect from a promoter. If you want to go international, then yes, producing is what you need to excel.

For me, i'm happy playing in AU, i don't want to be the next John Digweed touring the world, i'm happy playing the smaller clubs in Sydney a few times a month and rocking the dancefloor.

yes of course i would love to play one of the bigger parties both here and overseas, but the reality of it is, will that ever happen?

i think the title of this thread is obvious, who would ever assume that a good DJ is a good producer and vice versa.

its similar to comparing a song writer to a performer.

it could if you were talented and determined enough :)

also helps if you've got good overseas contacts.

many people do.

check out this thread in music discussion about the same topic.

a discussion which sparked at least once at some point when having a night out! :toothless

personal opinion, can't really compare DJing skill with producing skill. having said that, I have more respect for DJs who have mastered their skill well, because they can turn even the most obscure tracks into a dancefloor monster!

now see... to me that's overkill (particularly 19-26).

what's he trying to be?

a dj should play other peoples' tracks more than their own. seeing more of this from tiesto (TIC & TIC2 bah!), ferry and to a lesser extent avb. Less about dj'g and more about selling their own productions methinks.

i'll leave it to xenon to put in that awesome quote from Desyn Masiello :p
