TA Roll Call: James Holden @ Godskitchen, Vision 05-14

Anyone want to meet up somewhere? I'm going alone, bleh.

Also, anyone know when Holden will be coming on?

Whoa, another amazing set from Holden! The way James works the decks and mixer is awesome; constantly tweaking and contorting tracks, the intensity of the high-hats and wicked base lines in combination with the tech-sounds are killer. He hit the decks early this time too, stepping up around 12:15; quite the surprise. I managed to speak with James very briefly after his set. I guess, James is working on a Renaissance CD! Then, he spilled water all over his pants. It was funny.

What is with the stage set up? I hate it! I don't think Godskitchen realizes that sooner or later the crowd interaction becomes a bit of problem after awhile. Europeans seem to respect a Dj's space; I don't think Americans, in their drunken stupor, realize this. Not that I am speaking for all Europeans. It's something I've noticed about the UK crowds and American crowds. With a Dj on the stage as opposed to in the booth on the 2nd floor; there are more opportunities for people to jump the stage and cause trouble. And, the layout of Vision Sky does not accommodate the stage, but the booth instead.

Lucid said it was pretty dead around 11:30, but when I got there around 11:45, close to midnight, the place got pretty crowded fast and a lot of people were dancing. Not like dancing, more like flailing and kicking. A little bit annoying, but they definitely loved Holden crankin' out the tunes.

Some tracks I can remember hearing: Britney Spears - Breathe On Me (Holden Dub), Fischerspooner - Just Let Go (Thin White Duke Remix) <<-- KILLER TRACK!, maybe André Kraml - Safari (James Holden Remix), and maybe Nathan Fake - The Sky Was Pink (James Holden Remix)...there a couple more I knew, but I can't remember now. I'm sure he played Steve Lawler - Out At Night (Nathan Fake's Night In Mix), ADJD - Believe, and Lucid - Sine In, James Holden - Lump; there was a track I've heard before too. An oldy. Probably the first or second track he play, but I can't remember.

And, Eddie Halliwell sucked. Too hard for me, makes me just want to beat the out of something.

It was good to see you again, Lucid. I am glad you made it in okay.

Does anyone have any pics or vids from last night?

I have several videos, but do not have the webspace or anything of that sort to host them. If you want to email me at ybendiks@gmail.com , perhaps I can just burn them on a CD for you and mail them to you so you can host or do whatever you want with them :)

I thought Holden was great. As for Halliwell, I'd have to disagree with Neural - i thought both were excellent. Holden more dark and eclectic, Halliwell more mainstream-friendly.

I ended up meeting Halliwell and Holden at a house party in the morning after the show - very cool guys and they played an hour long set each as well in the morning.

I took them with my digital camera. It goes without saying that video quality is not outstanding, let alone the sound.

:(

Just an advance warning.
