CATALOGUE DESCRIPTION
What we hear from our parents, grandparents, or other war generation people, get deeply lodged in our hearts, and it sits there as pure emotion and constitutes an integral part of our identity. We live day to day mostly unaware of this powerful historical force that resides in us; it only comes out, often unexpectedly but forcefully, when we encounter something, usually something ordinary - an object, a fragrance, a story that triggers the deep-seated memory planted there by the war generation.
Professor Shigeru Miyagawa, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
Tin Nguyen, Vinh Kha, Haline Ly and Hoang Vo are four, young contemporary artists and graphic designers who were born after the Fall of Saigon in 1975. This generation in Australia has not experienced first hand the Viet Nam War. However, thirty years on, the impact of this futile war still resonates strongly amongst Vietnamese Australians today. This exhibition will explore their collective response and examine how their lives are still linked to this major global catastrophe.
