When promoting events it is always hard to have to announce bad news so it is with a deep heart that I have to announce that Tomcraft will not be in Winnipeg for Fantasia. He has decided to cancel his Canadian tour despite binding contracts because of his performance at the Republik in Toronto having to cancel on him. I have been told this is not the first time he has canceled out on Western Canadian Tour dates.
All that being said we have reacted quickly to ensure that the show will go on without a hitch and are pleased to announce a brand spankin new headliner for Fantasia. Call it luck, or the moon and the stars aligning that has allowed us to secure 2 amazing DJ’s to take the place of Tomcraft, so without further ado, filling the shoes for the evening will be none other than:
BK (London, UK) – Hard House/Hard Trance/Techno
(Nukleuz, Tidy Trax, Positiva)
Ben Keen, aka BK, is recognized the world over as the most successful and prolific hard dance producer of all time. With worldwide dance chart hits like ‘Music Is Moving’, ‘Hoovers n Horns’, and ‘Revolution’, BK has reinvented the genre of hard house and breathed new life into the style. And in addition to having conquered the world of hard house with his production skills, BK is positioned to take over the global DJ scene, ranking since 2001 as one of DJmag’s top 50 international DJs. He calls his sound “ever-changing and full of energy,” with innovative infusions of trance and techno that redefine the hard house style. He believes that “the sound of hard house has definitely changed—it’s got to,” and whether producing or playing, the sounds that BK creates represent the future of the genre.
In 1999, BK enlarged his creative scope to include the DJ circuit, proving that his talents are not restricted to the studio alone. By 2000, BK was already playing clubs around the world, headlining and appearing at all of the biggest dance events, including Dance Valley (100,000 people), Global Gathering UK, Gatecrasher Summer Sound System UK, Impulse NL, Frantic HardHouse Academy UK, Creamfields UK, Godskitchen NEC UK, Judgement Sunday Ibiza, Lashed in Ibiza, Gallery UK, Slinky UK, and Code Japan. He currently calls three of the most forward-thinking UK hard dance events home, holding residencies at Frantic’s Convergence, Nukleuz’s Riot!, and Kinky’s Trade. Much of his success is due to the same experimental approach that he utilizes in the studio. “As a DJ, I’ve been looking at other genres, and I’ve found that kind of music is something I like and that I like to play, and no one’s complained!”
In an extremely short period of time, BK has become recognized as not only a genre-defining producer, but also an influential DJ in the hard dance scene. His prodigious talents have created a new direction for the future of hard house, but BK is not ready to stop yet. “I’ve made every sort of music in the past, even stuff for television commercials. I’ve mic’d up a 60-piece orchestra at Abbey Road… And now I want to start bringing that into the kind of tracks I do now. Do that, but make it danceable and club-friendly—find a new sound for myself.”
Ascension (Calgary, Formerly London UK) – House
(Former Ministry of Sound Resident)
Making his return to Winnipeg, Ascension has been living in Calgary Canada for the last year and is part of the Scent DJ’s roster. Ascension has been known to lay down an almost soulful blend of house music that will be pleasing to the ears of anyone within range.
We are also pleased to announce the winners for the new DJ competition, We received over 20 submissions and it was very hard to narrow it down and only choose a few but the winners are:
Salem – A new face in Winnipeg’s trance community and has proven that he is more than capable of delivering a solid set.
&
The Elemental Monks – A new Hardcore/Happy Hardcore tag team sure to make waves in the local scene.
Sound & Lights: As Fantasia really is a celebration of Sound, Light & visual stimulation, our crew over at Frequency Pro Audio is putting together something sensational. A 3 day setup will commence to erect a 100 foot long massive lighting array that will loom over the dancefloor moving and pulsing. The largest stage ever seen at a local Winnipeg event will stand at the frontline, bordered by more Lights, Visuals & Lasers. The Sound will be no less then Top of the line EV X-Array and promises to shake the ground beneath your feet.
Tickets: Available at Frenzee, Urban Bakery & Nyce records and have begun moving very quickly this weekend. Make sure you get yours fast to avoid disappointment.
With the additions of BK & Ascension and the already stellar line up including Kristoff, Isis Graham & our cast of Winnipeg Locals, I am even more excited for this event then I ever was before, just goes to show.. Sometimes there really is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.. |
