Trance Basics 101 - Tek Trance

Light The Fuse
Was having a chat with senior Begic the other day and we were discucssing techno trance.
We both came to the conclusion that everybody is wrong :D
The stuff that is getting called tech-trance would be i guess Signum, Marco V, Mark Norman, even Tiesto calls himself a tech trance dj.

Now outta these DJ's personally Id say the only tech trance dj would be marco v and even then its pretty trancey tech trance.

Just because its driving and hard - does this make it tech trance>?
I think not.
Anyone who has listened to any techno must realise that techno is just like trance, there is hard, there is groovy, there is experimental.

The techno guys are calling James Holden a techno dj these days. Honestly id call it tech trance.
Dave Clarke - Tech Trance
DJ Preach Tech Trance.

hmmm....discuss..

I tend to agree with you on the subject of signum. they does produce tracks which is tech trancey eg. second wave, first strike, but looking at their set they play a trancey set.

marco v sets lately i think a bit more trancey than it used to be? compared with his sets a few years ago at mysteryland, he played straight up techno tracks with trance. similar formula can be found in eddie haliwell's sets. he play techno tracks, then trance. refer to his essential mix on february.

driving and pounding doesn't necessarily make a tech trance track, imo. refer: tiesto - obsession (frank biazzi mix)

i agree with holden being a tech DJ these days, however it's slightly more into electro/tech rather than tech trance? my assumption here is based on the lack of hi hats on most of the tracks that holden played?

very interesting.
