Problem - Only highs from my left speaker

I just went into my basement to record a set. When I turned everything on, the left speaker was fine for a second, and then got much lower.

After playing with it, it seems like I only have a faint amount of highs coming out of the speaker. No mids or lows at all.

I reconnected all of my speaker wires, checked my RCAs, my grounds, switched decks, tried a cd, checked my crossfader, my kills, everything.

The grills on my speakers are not removable so i can not see if i blew one.

I changed which input my mixer goes into on my receiver.

Nothing has worked.

All I can think of is something is wrong with my mixer. I have a Vestax PCV-275 for less then 9 months.

Anything else i can try?

Ugh. And I play live for my first time in 2 damn weeks. This will be great for practice time.

switch the speakers, left to right, right to left. then you'll be able to tell if it might be the speaker or the amp.

or, to check if its the mixer, take anything else with an RCA out and don't run it through the mixer, just straight into the amp, and see if the problem is fixed or not.

once you know specifically what is causing the problem... iunno. buy a new one? if a warranty is still valid for it, use that?

yea.. there ya go.

When you switch the left and right RCAs coming out of your mixer and into your reciever, does the problem change sides? Obviosly if it does than it is the mixer, otherwise...

definitely check the carts and their sockets for dust. the signal might not be 'just highs' it could just be very very weak ;)

i seriously doubt it will be the mixer, but try switching all inputs to all channels etc to rule out things. also check the second output of the mixer.

can you get music out of the amp wiring it to something other than the mixer (like a CD player or something)?

i'll check this stuff when i get home today. i did not check the carts at all because it was happening on both of my decks. if it was just the one deck i probably would have checked it.

my equipment is always covered and i am always using the canned air on it to keep it clean.

i have an extra set of speakers that i will test too.

i hope its not my mixer. i need to practice and i dont need to be going out and buying another one right now. the mixer should still be under warranty since i have only had it for 9 months. i just dont have the time to send it back since i need to practice for March 12.

if the worst comes to the worst, you can always dj in mono by taking a line off each working channel on each output, then send it back when you have time.

seems like the woofer on the left speaker is broken. hopefully the warranty covers it.
