Sounds like you're taking a little bit of a scientific approach to the whole thing... you'll know when the melody is good. (most likely when it means something to you the most)

this is good

Sounds pretty good, but it sounds kind of familiar; maybe I'm imagining things. It's been a long day. -- Ryan

The bottom layer of the lead sounds very familiar. Im pretty sure i've heard an other song with the same base melody..
But it doesnt matter as long as the top layer isn't..

Just hope you don't get sued..
nah. dont worry..

btw: the lead is very good, so is the sound, but you should experiment with some variatons on the top layer. it isnt boring, but try and see if you can get it any better..

yeah its really nice, i can imagine me raising my hands on this when finished... Only thing, if u make a full track of this, the melody is perhaps a bit too repetitive?

oh yea, i guess this is me being a newb but when you guys construct melodies do you play broken chords as in

Top Part
F F F
C C C

Lower Part
F F F

or single notes or chords?

not sure exactly what you mean. top part? if you play an F and a C around C4 to C5 thats an interval. you just happen to be playing the bass (for the sake of arguement around C2 to C3) in the same tonic as the interval.

for arpeggiated melody i tend to first get a chord (cliched i know - an A minor dropping to an Fmaj7). what i do is manually 'arpegiate' that chord. that is, break it up into 1/16ths or 1/32nds (depending on tempo) and arrange them in an ascending/descending pattern for the length of the bar. the same for the next chord. then ill put the bass part of the lead underneath (not necessarily in the same tonic though, although a classic would be A to F).
