FRIDAY MARCH 4th, 2005
CHEMISTRY BREAKS @ BOA PRESENTS
Erica Kelly's B-Day with
THE DRUMATTIC TWINS
www.drumattic.co.uk, www.fingerlickin.co.uk, UK
While they may have only released their debut album ‘Drumattical’ in 2002, British breakbeat duo the Drumattic Twins have been a part of the music industry a lot longer that you’d expect. In various incarnations the duo have gone through ‘post-disco soul’, to hip-hop, to rave, before finally settling on breakbeat, all in the space of 20 years.
Nick Slater first met Kevin Lancaster (otherwise known by the nickname Lanx) at school in the early 80s, the pair starting out in cover bands and DJing at school discos. Their performances then progressed to production when they teamed up with Rayan Gee to form the legendary 'Shades of Rhythm', who had a large influence on the early rave culture in the UK.
Moving on from Shades of Rhythm, Nick and Lanx formed Drumattic Twins initially as a record label to release their own material, “We formed Drumattic Twins out of Shades of Rhythm as an avenue to get our own music out, we had wanted to start a label called Drumattic Records. From that Finger Lickin’ became interested in us and signed us for the album that we released last year.” The Finger Lickin' stable is home to such genre-leading artists as Plump DJs, Soul of Man, Lee Coombs and Krafty Kuts.
Nick and Lanx now produce tracks together from opposite ends of the UK via an internet connection, one of only a handful of artists to produce in such a manner. Their 'decks 'n' effects' live shows are also gaining a reputation as something to behold.
