Well... there were rumors weeks before the event of something "going down" at this clubnight. And it actually did. 1 fatal stabbing and a few others if I am correct.
Does anyone have anymore info on this?.
It pisses me off when a couple hundread people can't go out clubbing and enjoy the music without some crap like this happening. It was planned in advance, and from what I know so far, the promoters did nothing to prevent it. Security was as usual.
WTF :wtf: is this world coming to...
/end rant. |

Two of the victims are Warehouse bouncers. then later a 2nd release.

About 5:OO AM on Saturday the 29 January 2005 police and EMS
were called to the Underground Pub, a night club, located in
the basement of 731 – 10 Ave SW regarding a disturbance on
the dance floor.
EMS quickly treated and transported four males with what
appeared to be suffering from stab wounds to the Foothills
Hospital. One of the victims, an adult male, has since died
from his injuries, one is in surgery with life – threatening
injuries, one is in serious condition and the last was
treated and has been released.
The Homicide Unit has been called in to conduct the
investigation.
It is unknown at this time what started the incident and
investigators will be very busy speaking to the several
hundred people inside the nightclub at the time of the
incident. |
not all true there. both bouncers are alive and out of surgery. One of them was stabbed in the neck, but came out of surgery a few hours ago. I spoke to another bouncer who was in teh hospital with his friends. It seems that they are going to be ok (physically)
in the meantime, Chris (special agent) the owner of the club made a statement on electrocalgary
| quote: | The brief version of what happened to the best of our collective knowledge (which is pretty good at this point) is this:
A few (3-5) guys were banging on the double doors for some reason. One of our bouncers opened the door to see what was going on or stop them or whatever and they immediately pulled him outside and stabbed him. Another bouncer tried to help him and they pulled him out and stabbed him also. The guys then ran into the club, found the patrons (who they appeared to be looking for) stabbed them and fled the scene. It happened very fast and most of the staff were dealing with what initially occurred with the two security guys when the secondary attack occurred. The attackers had no conflict with the bouncers prior to this incident. The knife did not get past security at any time except for the obvious point at which the assault happened. Two Asian customers were stabbed yet I am not aware of there being any Asian attackers... they were all white save one.
The immediate result of the situation is that The Warehouse will be closed for tonight only as the police have declared the entire bar a crime scene that must be examined carefully. This includes both floors for regular and afterhours. That's just the way it is.
People that do this sort of thing are a staggering waste of humanity. They are worth nothing and now a family has lost their son. I hate them in ways that I can't accurately describe and I hope their lives are miserable for all eternity not because of any effect on my bar but because I thought for a while that 2 people I have grown to know and like were about to die.. and all I could think about were the last things I said to them and how I could do little more than sit there applying pressure to a wound, wondering how I could ever look the rest of my guys in the eye again if the worst came to pass. I can't explain how happy I am that they are OK. That said, I am terribly sorry about what happened to the other guy (whose name regrettably, I don't even know) and his family. Nobody deserves this.
The staff were amazing all night long and particularly under the immense stress of what happened. All of the customers were exceptionally well behaved all night long and particularly while waiting for hours with the music off and the lights on and no end in sight. You all cooperated and made the officials' job easier. It was also indicated that a lot of useful information was generated by the questioning.
Finally, for what it's worth, Ben and co. produced an excellently well rounded, highly organized party that did not deserve the fate it befell. Unfortunately, that fact will be overshadowed by the ruthless behaviour of a few.
Whatever comments might seem witty, humourous or cynical AREN'T. If that's your line of thinking, you are simply wrong and if you insist on proving that fact to all of us... go ahead. In case you haven't noticed...
I am really goddamn mad.
And REALLY sad. |
Ive also been told that there was a fight/altercation earlier in the night, but its not clear if its the same two groups involved in the stabbing.
Im pretty close to alot of people at the club, and TBH this surprised me and shocked me. I feel safer inside that club than most other places in the world. There arent many places in Calgary that do patdowns like they do for drugs and weapons and keep and ID log at the door. But none of this really matters when the guys who did it rush an emergency exit. Personally, I would still feel safe as ever there. Their main security systems didnt fail. Dont know what else to say. |

Thanks Jspot for ALL of that. Defineately clears up alot of stuff that I hadn't had knowledge of previous to posting my original statement. Changes my view upon it greatly.
I am sorry to the victims and family that have had to deal with the stupidity of a few cowards that feel they need to kill someone to fix a problem.
My deepest sympathy to all involved. :( |

This is what I posted at another forum about this:
| quote: | Yea I don't think that security should be blamed, depending on the situation, some things can be prevented and others cannot, if they knew about this then hopefully security was beefed up, and also I'm surprised that it seems security took awhile to respond (dunno for sure).
Security can only check you so well, but it would still be possible to sneek something like a knife in, then of course if you standing next to someone it only takes a couple seconds to pull a knife and stab someone, therefor doesn't matter how much security was around, they wouldn't be able to respond fast enough, its really that things like this happen because of some ******s who wanna look like bad asses, but unfortunately its something that will happen all over the world for many years to come, this might sound crazy but clubs should have a scanning system like at airports, when you have to take all metal things off to pass threw, it would be expensive, but if it saves one life, then it payed for itself, it would still be possible to get things in like some knifes that are made out of extra strong plastic, but it would sure reduce problems in clubs. |
I have to say I will still go to that club, I liked the vibe and the club itself, I can't hold the club responsible for the actions of afew pathetic in s, I hope they pay for this with there life. |

weapons dont get into the club. There was a fight a few months back...no weapons, unless somebody got bottled.
the weapons that made it in this time DIDNT go past security. So I dont think they need metal detectors, as that is simply a PR move that makes it seem safer. |
