WOW! Didn't realize this, but Federer speaks SIX languages!! The man is awesome.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - The world's best tennis player is becoming the sport's No. 1 statesman.

When Roger Federer walks into a news conference, he's certain to be asked about his forehand, his serve and how he felt. But he's just as likely to be asked about the state of the game, the people running it, or its future direction. It happened after Federer's 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 win over Jonas Bjorkman on Wednesday in the second round of the Australian Open.

...

Federer also takes his role in promoting the sport seriously.

He speaks six languages - English, German, Swiss German and French fluently, and some Swedish and Italian. Last year at the Australian Open, he was still walking around the media room several hours after he beat Marcos Baghdatis in the final, completing numerous interviews in different languages

That's really impressive. I wish I spoke 6 languages. I'd settle for just French though (or German... but French is the one I truly have a passion for).

Just another reason i LOVE 'em.
Federer = SUPERman

Great to see him still breezing thru, this time over Mikhail Youzhny. 3 sets, done deal. Next up is the up-and-coming Serb,
#14 Novak Djokovic.
Not to be taken lightly - this guy has SERIOUS game.

Had the unpleasantness of watching Serena defeat #5 Nadia Petrova last night:mad:
As much as i dont like her, DAMN shes good when she needs to be.
Petrova was serving for the match in the 2nd, and Serena literally took her game to another level where she couldnt be stopped.
I honestly feel like she has a VERY good chance to win it all now.
#11 Serb Jelena Jankovic is next, and i dont think she can top Serena.

My boy #9 Ancic took care of business in 3 sets as well,
and awaits the Safin-Roddick winner (playing as i'm typing).
What a titanic match that is, only wish the best to Mario...

No other real upsets, everything pretty straight forward.
Still like Roger vs Nadal in the final on the mens side.
Womens its outta Serena, Clijsters, and Sharapova i feel

I agree. I could that match too... and it was BRUTAL to watch. I was so pumped for Petrova... then to see it all slip away...

I hate watching Serena's matches period (even worse now that her backside seems to have grown and I cant NOT focus on it all the time even though i dont want to :clown: ), so I was hoping not only that she lost, but that the match would be done in two sets w/ pretrova taking the 2nd.
but nope, not only did serena win, i had to endur an extra set of watching her.

Anyways, i agree with your comments, she MASSIVELY stepped up, that was hihgly impressive.
But i dunno, i think ur under rating Jankovic's game.... shes gonna be intense right from the start, and if serena starts slow like she did yesterday, i think jankovic's gonna walk all over her, and not give serena a time to make up for a weak start.

it'll be a close 3 set match i predict

I wanted Petrova to beat Williams. I didn't really enjoy that match to be honest. Blah, I guess that Petrova just needs more practise. But damn, she sure gets moody when things don't work out for her! (I don't blame the girl...I would have probably flipped out too).

The first set was pretty intense, but then it all went downhill from there. I was hoping that Serena's knee injury would have slowed her down a lot more. :(

I dont know if its all about needing more practice. But I must admit, more experience against big players in the Grand Slams would help her with her nerves and make closing easier.

I think her loss here was more about Serena stepping up here game, as she would sooooo often do when down and seemingly on her way out. When it comes down to crunch time, Serena has an amazing, and fairly consistent ability (in the past) to step up to the plate and really improve her game incredibly. And thats whut Serena did here.

She was only facing a match point against Petrova bc her game was sloppy. She was making all kinds of unforced errors. Serena was losing the match for herself, I feel, more so than Petrova was the reason she was losing.

Agreed. She looks kinda intimidated when she plays, and that really affects her skills. She has potential and I know she can do better, but she just has to step up a bit, and not let her opponents slow her down.
