Above & Beyond have won the inaugural Radio 1 'Essential Mix of Year' award, as voted for by the listeners of Radio 1. The news was announced during Pete Tong's Essential Selection radio show on Friday the 17th of December, during a special live broadcast from Turnmills in London.
Jono and Paavo were there to accept the award from Pete and gave a big shout out to fellow Above & Beyonder Tony McGuinness, who was listening in the US. During a live interview, Pete asked Above & Beyond how they had approached the mix and what had inspired them. The boys explained that they had put a lot of thought into every record – in many cases making exclusive edits of tracks - and that Paul Oakenfold's legendary Goa mix had always been a big inspiration to them.
Above & Beyond's winning mix was re-broadcast on BBC Radio 1 on 26th December, but you can still listen to the show on playback on the BBC Radio1 website
Above & Beyond would like to thank all the fans that voted, and for all their support over the past year! Over 10,000 people placed their votes for the Essential Mix of the Year award, and the Top 5 were:

Bon alors today, jme baladais chez mon discaire a la recherche de quelques nouveautés, finalement je suis parti avec :
Motorcycle - ATRC (G&D Remix/AVB Remix) (c'était classé en nouveautés lol)
Et sinon par le plus gros des hasards, je susi tombé sur ca:
BBE - Flash EP 2x12" (Je l'ai pris uniquement pour 7 days & 1 week) -> 2€ au rayon occasions
Chicane - Offshore (Disco Citizens Remix/Original) 1€
Matt Darey & Marcella WOods - U SHine On (Magik Muzik DUb) alors la aucune idée, je l'ai pris au hasard pqe c t a 1€ et parceque c'etait matt darey lol
Serious SUmmer Sampler : wtf? en fait c'est de la merde avec Madhouse dessus notamment (Like a prayer mdr) mais je l'ai pris pour JamX&DeLeon - Can U Dig it? (1€ mdr)
Catch - Walk on Water (Above & Beyond Instrumental Remix) -> alors ca connais pas, j'ai juste pris car c'était un remix de A&B (a 1€ ca se prend lol)
et enfin Blank & Jones - After LOve -> inconnu au bataillon mais bon pareil, 1€ lol
ah et pis y'a 2 semaines g trouvé AIrwave - Save Me à 4€ dans un dépot vente sous une etiquette "vinyl techno" lol
m'en vais ecouter tt ca pour savoir ce que ca donne
