Your thoughts on Killzone (PS2)

CynepMeH
I've been playing KillZone for about a week now and for the hype this game got, it ain't it. Some claimed it to be "halo" killer. Well, here's my take on it:

it's more "medal of honor" rather than futuristic game. first of all, you got a soldier that is a clutz, at best. You can't really jump the obsticles - just where it lets you jump. You can't really interact with the surroundings, just whatever is left to interact with. The only "close" interaction you will have is if you shoot the wall or object or whatnot, it leaves a bullet burn/pockmark.

The levels are the same - you're running around killing faceless (well, ewok-looking) mofos in helmets that have a insignia close to swastica. The objectives are dumb (find a key, reach a building, protect position). The enemies are predictable. The game play is pretty mundane.

You can't ride any of the conveyances (like in halo2), you can't really improvize on your approach. After a while, the game becomes just a mindles wondering from level to level in search of new targets to kill. The challenge does not really progress and get harder at each level... you just have different objects to hide from.

Oh, and the graphics are not that great. they are OK, but wondering in the park (with bushes and all), you're walking through what looks more like bunch of fragmented planes rather than leaves. If that doesn't give you seizures, the constant ambient noise in the buildings will. It's worse than sitting in my cubicle at work, with the AC duct hissing in my ear all day long.

Bottom line - definitely a rental, definitely not a Halo killer, definitely not worth the $45. If you got other opinions, feel free to chime in.

I work at a video store, and I took the pleasure of hooking up our rental PS2 to the small TV we have in the back office and playing Killzone when it came in a few weeks ago.

For a PS2 FPS, I was impressed. I thought the graphics were great, and, although I didnt get to play online, I still caught a glimpse at the multiplayer via the usage of bots, and I was impressed again.

At the same time, this isnt a Halo killer. I didnt play the single player, but from what I hear, and from pictures, the levels dont look all that interesting. Plus, some choppiness during certain segments hinders the gameplay.

So really, buy this game only if you have a hooked-up network adaptor. The multiplayer is great, but everything else is just run-of-the-mill. Rent it and see for yourself, I guess.
