Thee Grotto & Eli's Cribb
E-Newsletter
Hello, it's Eli here, and after years and years of sending out emails,
this
is by far the least enjoyable one I have ever sent (yes worse than the
Blue
Room one or the Tabu one). Since the day I opened Thee Grotto back in
September
of 2002, you have seen and heard about me working 100 hours every week,
non
stop for 31 months, trying to keep the Orlando scene alive while
keeping the
doors open at the tiny Grotto. Since the day we have opened, every
week has
gotten better. The DJ lineups have been the best in downtown for over
two years,
and the people who hang out are by far the best people to be around,
period.
Eli's Cribb opened in February of this year, and both bars together
still
continue to break records month after month. Which is why I must
unfortunately
tell you that Thee Grotto and Eli's Cribb will be closing soon. So, if
you
think I have been acting a little weird lately (more than normal),
here's why:
The Dolive Building, which is the building that houses Thee Grotto;
Eli's
Cribb; Alpha Bar; (not very) Cool World; (hey we're on the) Corner Bar,
and
Stinky Murphy's, is in the process of being sold. It has been slated
for
demolition, and currently the management staff and the new owner will
not give us any
information as to how long we can stay in the building. One thing is
for
certain - they are going to tear it down (soon).
Now here's the good news: I am going to do everything I can to move
Thee
Grotto. There is not much room downtown right now, and moving would be
very
costly, but I think I can make it happen. It will be positively the
hardest thing
I have accomplished ever, so here comes the point I need to make - I
need
every bit of help I can get! I am planning on booking the DJs in
December like
no one has ever seen before! This is a call for all of the favors that
I can
ask of my friends, customers, and DJs, in one of the worst times of the
year -
the damn holidays!! In a nut shell, please come down and support Thee
Grotto
whenever you are downtown! And DJs: please get in touch with me and
lets make
some great nights happen in December, as they are the last of Thee
Grotto's
nights as we now know them!
You can expect a very cool free commemorative t-shirt night coming in
December, as well as a "Save Thee Grotto" benefit night (yes like save
Ferris). I
will be calling in all of the favors with my DJ friends across the
state, so
definitely expect an awesome star packed DJ lineup for the next 6-10
weeks. I
hope I can expect your help!
Anyways, through no fault of my own, I must find a place to move all of
the
great nights that happen at Thee Grotto and Eli's Cribb. I am
confident that I
will be successful, and I will certainly keep you up to date as to my
progress. And, any ideas or leads you may have that I could consider
would be very
appreciated!
Love ya! eli
