please tell me you're joking, if you want the fluffy bitch stuff, you were at the wrong show, and his track selection is anything but generic, might wanna do some research on the dj before you go to there show |
please excuse me for my noobieness :(. This is my third coming to the nite club/rave/dance club ever..I did some search about him + read newspaper and I know James is a "pure" DJ, but he said he also want to do some original tracks for himself in future as well + read the forums/general feedback(from etownravepage as well as TA) and 100% of them praise "JZ is God", "JZ please come to Vancouver",etc so I decide to give him a try. I was expecting him to play some thing similar like a few live gigs set that I 've listened such as Paul Van Dyk at Central Park Live or Rank 1 @ Chase, or Tietso, etc... well, lesson learned.
Not that I say he is suxxor ruxxor, he played some decent tunes as well and I'm gonna post it in the ID forum to ask to ID. He do some pretty cool scratching too but scratching is too hip-hop, isn't it? :nervous:
ANd could please anybody tell me what "kind" of DJ is John "00" Flemming? I've already bought the tix to Futureshock ( Jan 2005 ) :nervous:
and how to distinguish DJ that play trance that I like Tietso, Rank 1, PvD, AvB to the technical DJ that play generic stuff such as James? too bad that technical DJ-ing is not my taste :( , as I always prefer producer DJ (hint: look at my sig) and the first trance song ever that I've listin to is from a producer DJ, so...first love, ya know :nervous:
to BryZe: yes, banging tunes is good and fun to dance too but banging tune after bangin tune is too hard-core, isn't it? A little break down (1 or 2 tunes) by "bitch fluffy tunes"(stuff such as Solar Stones - 7 cities - voted best/most addictz tune in Western Canada-TA) in the middle and in the end of set, when everyone is either to drunk or tired, is better, isn't it :), a litte diversity sure doesn't hurt, right :)
and there is a (stupid?) bylaw in Edmonton that every street level clubs have to close after 3AM, right? but if the clubs have underground stage (such as decadedance) so it is still OK, right? |

if you did any research you would know james zabiela doesn't even spin the same genre of music as pvd or tiesto so to expect a set similar to theres is crazy, and no diversity doesn't hurt which is why james goes from electro to prog to techno and back again and to throw in a tune like seven cities wouldn't fit into his set at all, as for john 00, I consider him the best trance dj period, but from the sounds of your taste you probably won't like him, he spins a wide variety as well, psy/goa, prog, hard, so depending on what night you catch him on you might like lots of his stuff or none at all, and no scratching isn't "too hiphop" it's one of the hardest things to master as a dj and if you listen to any breaks/dnb or some house you'll hear it a lot more than in trance, and it doesn't matter if a dj produces or not its his style that you should be worried about, james is gonna produce tracks similar to the stuff he played last night, not sure where you're getting these terms like technical and generic, you're definately not using them in the right context anyways |

James is a very technically advanced DJ that knows how to work the music rather then just match tracks and lay them out.
He uses his scratching brilliantly between transitions or in the middle of songs. His bass lines for each track were prefectly locked in with the cued track.
After having some things pointed out to me (Thanks DJMD) and listening for myself you realize why he his so busy up there. |
