What a great night, for me especially.
You have no idea how happy i was to be able to see svenson, tomcraft, mauro and blank and jones back to back. There were no dissapointments. This show was everything and then some.
I walked away with sigs from all the artists (even mauro). mauro gave me a special mauro picotto meganite ep necklace made especially for him by kappa. Blank and Jones threw a t-shirt into my bag when they were dome signing my records! I know have a blank & jones 'monument' world tour 2004 t-shirt. How amazing is that!
Mirka and vlad were great, especially the sam sharp record. Svenson was a little weak skill wise, but played alot of big ID&T and Trance Energy tracks. Tomcraft was excellent, skill wise, but i expected a little different track selection from him. He seemed to veer a little too far into the mainstream for my liking. MAuro was great, and unusual at thte same time. We were told to expect unusual stuff, and we got it... half way through the set, some soul deep house remixed into faster techno. VERY VERY Wierd, but good. Near the end of the set he dropped a couple of meganite ep bombs as well as played an unreleased mix of Awesome. Blank and Jones played alot of their own tracks. They had equpiment problems, and they trainwrecked about a dozen times. They played tiesto's addagio for strings twice. Was this a mistake, or did they mean this lunacy to occur? The equipment seemed bad (all the djs had trouble) but with them it was pronounced. Anne played a great opening song.. then i drifted quickly to another room to escape the hard house beats, but i was back later to here the tidy remix of adagio for strings. Great night, great experience, Good Job SOlid. |

Unreal.............Vlad and I had a really good time playing our set completely motionless- the decks on the mainstage were jumping like crickets...insane but I think we managed to pull off a pretty good opener for the mainstage. Okay hmmm where do I start: Svenson, probably the least scintilating dj all night with mediocre mixes and really old tracks(i heard svenson&gielen twisted, gtr mistral etc) which was really nice and proved to be a very nostalgic if uninspired set. To Svenson's defense he was exausted -
TOMCRAFT....I LOVE THIS MAN. Tomcraft epitimizes the full maturation of a dj...playing everything from lonlinessesque tracks to new order's blue monday (one of my all time faves) and full blown techno (marco carola, i think i head some adam beyer and mauro in there too) technically he was solid after he realized that you really have to walk on eggshells on stage to not upset the needles...I can't say enough about his performance.
MAURO- Kicked ass.........a few people were complaining he slowed the tempo down but I actually found it way better to get a feel for who he is as a dj, and I think people were surprised to hear how flexible he is. This man has been someone I have followed for over ten years musically and I felt so honoured to have played on the same stage as he did....
BLANK & JONES - Made me eat my words.....I have never been a big B&J fan for various reasons but last night they created a new fan out of me. Cheezy? well kind of sometimes but overall a beautifully programmed and executed set. I was very shocked to find myself wanting to stay during their set ....
ANNE SAVAGE..... By this time I had been wrecked thanks to the onslaught on tomcraft, mauro and b&j........my poor 27 year old legs were not able to keep on moving for much of anne's set....but what i heard was good
last night was amazing in so many ways I can't begin to describe...I got to meet everyone on the mainstage as well as so many amazing people on the dancefloor. I got to play with one of the most wicked dj's in Canada- my good friend Vlado. I dressed up D (I was Wilma) I danced more than I have in three years at a party and it made me feel like I was 21 again......
wow thank you Solid for putting this event on. NYE looks crazy with Kai Tracid............
hugs and love

that was the best rave i have ever been to. the night didn't really start for me until blank & jones. i'm a huge fan as you can probably tell. i wasn't really dancing like i normally do with djs like ferry, armin, pvd; i was just really listening to their music, singing along, and hammering out all the beats. i knew or have atleast heard most of the songs they played. remix they did of mind of the wonderful made me change my mind about that song. i can only remember them messing up once, piet blank killed the master volume for like 2-3 seconds, totally threw me off beat. i'm sure they did trainwreck, but to me it's the parts in the middle of their tracks that were so magical. what some might call a religious experience. i wanna move to germany.
anne savage rocked the place. i haven't heard really any of her stuff. probably the highlight of her set was when she played "blood rave". they had the strobes timed just right and i was almost expecting sprinklers to spray blood all over the crowd, haha.
i've never been to one like that before, it felt like they brought a piece of europe over here with them. just one killer night. danced from blank & jones til the lights came on pretty much straight (needed water). setting was cool. i liked how you could go up into the bleechers and watch the crowd. i only wish i had my camera with me, but that would have involved going back out to the car and possibly not getting back in, not worth the risk.
and would someone mind telling me why they keep taking my gum away? |
