Kate used to live just round the corenor from Caledonia Road (tube station). Try Archway area, Caledonia Road area, round to Finsbury Park and Camden. To be honest, that's pretty bog standard North London, its not overly safe, but its not overly dangerous either.
Places in Camden and up to Chalk Farm are likely to be way out of your league but i'd imagine Archway / Holloway Road would be ok for you.
Expect to pay £100 a week unless you can find a particularly big house to share in, ie. the more you share with, the cheaper it will be.
If you live near where you're studying you rule out travel expenses, which is a good move, altho to be honest, unless all your friends live local too, you're gonna be using buses and tubes. Kate will have the best idea of costs right now tho. |

Actually looking at that map you are inbetween Clerkenwell/Farringdon (rather expensive) Hackney (Cheap as ) and Finsbury (Expensive at one end, cheap at the other). Places like Farringdon and The Barbican boast some of the most expensive living, and some of the cheapest you'll find in one place.
You'll be close to Hoxton/Old Street Tube which is where its at, basically, socially speaking. I used to work there, so i know. Its where London's independent design/music nexus is located and Farringdon is home to Clubs like Turnmills and Fabric. Basically, as a student, it would be difficult to be better situated if you can afford to live there.
In the area that building is located (u linked to) its relatively residential, relatively run-down, but not too bad, lots of council housing blocks etc, but don't let that put you off, you'll learn how to navigate drunken tramps and chav's in no time. And there's a handy Argos just up the road for all your modern-living needs.
Over the other side of City road (from that location) it goes into hackney via shoreditch/hoxton square, and then after that its like a war zone. |

sorry I'm not clear about what's referring to what..
in the first 2 paragraphs its seems as though you're referring to another location than what is being referred to in the last 2 paragraphs of your post.
you say I'll be in the best part of town of a student but then you say I'll be living in a residential, run-down neighborhood not too far from a warzone :p
could you please clarify :o |

The second post (above) refers to where this http://www.unite-students.com/a.asp?city=London&pg=3 is located. The first (on the last page) is Caledonian Road area, which is what i take it you mean by Caledonian Station.
Basically, where that place is situated is nice to live, ok? but its not particularly near Caledonian Road, you can probably get a bus or tube there in a relatively short time tho. |
