Hello all. This is my first post on Tranceaddict. I have a question for you all. I know alot of hip-hop DJ's who make mixtapes (who actually scratch and blend their songs together to make one mix) and sell them on their websites or at venues etc. I was wondering, do you guys make mixtapes of your sets and sell them or just hand them out for free?
Thanks In Advance

Be careful about what you write around here, because you may get buttered, basted, sprinkled with pepper, have your mouth stuffed with an apple, and put over a scorching flame.
aAny discusssion of illegal activity is seriously frowned upon, such as selling illegally copied copyrighted works. Just a tip b/c ive seen the pirannahs attack and its not pretty.
BTW, welcome |

I think nearly everyone one here gives them away for free. In my experience when someone is selling DJ Demo CDs it is usually not the DJ who made it (to clarify, I am not talking about the hip-hop mix tapes you mentioned). |

:D He He
Seriously though, i understand your question but i'm not to sure if you're also indirectly asking about the value of giving CD's away as a promotional tactic or as a part of a marketing strategy.:toothless |

Hmm. Interesting. It's kinda interesting how issues are viewed on seperate sides of the spectrum. For example, you go to any random DJ's website (hiphop or dancehall) and they list their mixtapes that are availible but they have them for sale but you go to any dance DJ's website, and they may list their mixtapes that they have done but they don't have them for sale and usually have mixes already for download. Are DJ's within dance music really that ethical? |

| You do bring up a good point. I don't know why the difference exists but I doubt EDM DJs are all just more ethical than Hip-Hop DJs. A cynical view might be that there is a "market" for Hip-Hop mixes but EDM Djs have to give them away :). I suspect the real reason is that the two cultures are different, I bet that Hip-Hop DJs have traditionally charged for mixes and EDM DJs generally give their mixes away. |

Yeah. But why is that? |
