DANCE VALLEY
After waiting another year for this spectacular party, (by now my 3rd edition of DV)I was having trouble falling asleep the night before!! I kept thinking “OMG! Tomorrow is DV, FINALLY again”… Finally I managed to fall asleep, wake up bright and early to get ready for the greatest outdoor dance festival in the world… The weather forecast was cloudy and chance of rain, which sucked, but it wasn’t going to get us down.
The weather ended up being just great!!! The sun came through and because it had drizzled a little the night before it wasn’t all dirt and dust (for those that were at 4th of July, you know what I mean hehehe)… The energy was amazing, everyone was in the mood for another edition (the 10th edition) of Dance Valley Festival, and it seemed like the gods were on our side that day because every aspect of it was perfect.
I walked around a bit with my friends, exploring the HUGE HUGE area to see what they had done with the decoration etc this year… After that we went to the Armada Area to make sure we had a good spot for Markus’ set… Getting there it was easy to get a spot right up front, center front in fact. And a few moments later Markus and Heather arrived…
Markus’ set was simply amazing (as we’ve become accustomed of him)! The tent was slowly starting to fill up, and it was amazing to see how many fans Markus has on the other side of the Atlantic. In the meantime Heather had joined me in the front and we were having a ball cheering on Markus! Heather looked TOO cute, btw ;) It was a lot of fun and slowly a whole lot of people I knew started showing up as well…
After Markus it was time for Armin! Of course, my favorite DJ (although Markus is coming very very very close hehehe). I had my nice center-front spot going, and a whole bunch of people from Armin’s forum and Trance Addict came and joined the group of us Armin-diehards lol. We were all having a blast together… By now the tent was pretty warm, and Armin was spinning for 6 hours so I decided to go get something to eat and check out the mainstage for a few minutes for Sasha… After about 30 minutes I went back to the Armada tent, where I remained for the rest of Armin’s set. I’m not kidding, I just couldn’t leave, he was spinning too damn good hehehe.
After Armin’s set I wandered around a bit through the techno area’s but I couldn’t quite get into the vibe there… After some wandering we ended up at the mainstage again. We needed to be sure to be there for the closing of dance valley, which is always extra special. During the last dj’s set is the only time that the sun starts to set, so towards the end they turn on the lights and lasers and everybody is letting out their remaining energy… You look up or down the valley and you can see thousands of people going insane with the lasers….
Carl Cox did a superb job of finishing off what was a wonderful day! He was banging away with his techno beats. I think my personal highlight of his set was when he spun Filterheadz-Sunshine! Such a summery tune! We ended up leaving a few minutes before to avoid the bigger crowd, but that was alright…. Needed to rest anyways because the next day at 1 pm we were leaving to Ibiza!!!
Ibiza Day 1-Aug 8
Having arrived after a tiring flight with a stopover in La Palma de Mallorca, we were finally on the little electronic dance music utopia ;) It took forever for our suitcases to come out (Ibiza goers BEWARE lol) but when they did there was a little bus waiting to take us to our hotel and everything… Got to the hotel, checked in, it was decent enough, only downer was that there was no AC! Apparently most of the hotels there don’t have that, but it’s ING hot! Hehehe… Went and explored Ibiza Town a bit, got some food and got ready to head to San Antonio for Judgement Sundays at Club Eden. Ferry Corsten was the special guest he he he.
We got to Eden and had some cocktails at the Eden bar or whatever it’s called since the club wasn’t open yet. We paid 40 Euros to get in (like $44) and there we were our first club in Ibiza! Eden wasn’t really all that and more, it was just a regular, big club. It was pretty cool nonetheless. It started to fill up pretty quickly and Roland van Gelderen was getting the crowd warmed up good! Finally around 2 am the man we were there for came, Ferry Corsten.
From the moment Ferry entered the booth, the energy in Eden exploded!! It was clear that we weren’t the only ones who had paid 40 euros to see Ferry that evening ;) His set was exceptionally good. I was never really decided about whether I thought Ferry was alright or very good, it was always somewhere in between for me, but this night he definitely proved he is worthy of his spot in the top 5 djs on the list. My night was complete when he spun Force of Gravity (hope you enjoyed the short call, Harold ;) ).
After Ferry at around 4:30 we went back to our hotel… Eden was on the other part of the island and I was so tired from Dance Valley and traveling that we decided to take a taxi rather than wait for the discobus. Except for the no AC, when I got used to it, I slept like a baby :)
Ibiza Day 2-Aug 9
My friend woke me up at 9:30 AM so we could spend the day baking at the beach… We walked down to the beach in Figueretas and found ourselves a nice spot where we laid tanning and dozing off for a few hours. The water was so blue and clear! While I baked I kept falling asleep, needless to say I ended up turning kinda red… But it was alright… Around 2 PM we decided to head to Bora Bora Beach. Our first mission for the day: find a BUS to take us there hehehe
After waiting for a bus for what seemed like ages, we finally managed to get the right bus, pay almost NOTHING and get dropped off right in front of Bora Bora. Getting there it was PACKED. Crazy, it’s just a beach and I knew it was popular but it was crazy! We decided to get a bite to eat there and a pitcher of sangria… After that we were kinda tipsy and went to lie some more on the beach…
I ended up being a little tipsier than I thought because I dozed off again, actually, make that passed out. Hehehe We went back to the hotel to shower etc to try to make the sunset at Café Del Mar. We were ready on time but it being high season in Ibiza it was impossible to get a taxi or a bus on time for us to get to San Antonio so we missed the sunset. After pouting for a little while I got over it and we decided to get ready for Cocoon at Amnesia.
After a little bit of a mix up at the door of Amnesia (long story, not important) we were finally inside what is probably known in EDM world to be the greatest club in the world… The decoration was AMAZING, I can’t even begin to describe it. The DJ was playing some nice techno beats and getting us in the mood for the man of the night, Sven Vath! The club filled up pretty quickly and by 3 am it was packed to the max! Tiesto at space was NOTHING compared to this.
People were going crazy to the beats, dancing as if their lives depended on it. It kinda sucked because my friend and I couldn’t even dance normally because we kept getting pushed aside. And there were a lot of gross smelly men without their shirt trying to rub up against us… Sven Vath was enjoying himself up in the VIP, looking down on the thousands of people who had come to his night in Ibiza. The dancers were so good, I’ve never seen dancers that good in a club before! And the CO2, don’t even get me started on that, it was insane!!
At 4 AM Sven finally took his place behind the decks but right then all the people who were in the terrace area also decided to come to the main room, so it got more crowded. At 4:30 my friend and I decided it was time to go get some sleep if we weren’t going to enjoy ourselves anyways… Besides, the next day was the day we had come there for, Armin Only, and also are final day in Ibiza…
Ibiza Day 3-Aug 10
On this day we slept in a bit, woke up around 11 AM and headed to the beach near our hotel. We decided we weren’t going to stay too long to make sure we didn’t miss the sunset again; it was, after all, our last opportunity to see the world famous café del mar sunset ;)
We chilled at the beach until about 4:30, just swimming and tanning, feeling the butterflies for Armin Only!! After that we headed back to the hotel, showered, got ready, packed our suitcases (our plane was leaving the next morning but we figured we wouldn’t have time to pack after Amnesia, at least not if we’d stay till the end), and headed out to find a way to San Antonio around 6 pm. Early yes, but we weren’t taking any chances today.
We managed to get a bus headed to San An so it saved us quite a bit of money once again. After wandering around a bit as real tourists, we finally found the strip with Café del Mar and Café Mambo. We wandered around San Antonio a bit since we still had quite a bit of time to kill before the sunset. We had dinner right next to Café del Mar and the sun was slowly starting to sink more and more.
Our dinner was done at exactly the right time, we strolled down to the rocky beach (it’s not really sandy, more rocky, imagine the pier at key Biscayne park) and found a place to sit. There were so many people; it was simply crazy and amazing that so many people came out just to watch the sun sink in to the ocean!! There was beautiful chill out music playing in the background and it was probably the most beautiful, emotional, touching sunset I have ever seen. My friend and I were covered with goose bumps from head to toe.
When the sun disappeared into the ocean everybody got up and clapped. In Ibiza this means the night has begun, or for many Ibiza goers “the real day” and so they clap to celebrate the beginning of the night, the beginning of the partying ;)
My friend and I headed to a place called Bar M that was hosting a pre party for Armin Only. We had time to kill and nowhere to go since the clubs don’t open until midnight… After hanging around at the bar for a bit we found out that Armin would be coming to the pre-party as well!! At this point I was suffering a bit of sunburn and I also became a little sick, but that wasn’t going to spoil it for me!
Armin showed up around 11 and played only 2 tracks hehe, but it was funny that he showed up and we got to chat with him for a little bit as well. Then he was whisked away by his management as he had to start his set at Amnesia at 12 sharp. At that time my friend and I decided to grab a taxi to Amnesia ourselves, we wanted to be sure to catch as much of his set as possible ;)
Arriving at Amnesia we got to get in the line for the guest list, and Armin and his management had even made sure we were allowed to get in VIP! We got into the club and it was still practically empty so we managed to find a great spot. Armin started dropping great tunes right away, and my friend and I knew it was going to be a hell of a night! There was a lot of contact between us and Armin (as in usual Armin manner) and we were having a blast. Time was flying by so quickly, I didn’t want it to end.
But as all good things, this too had to come to an end, and after 7 hours of non-stop Armin, it was about that time. There was quite a turnout for Armin’s solo set! Amnesia was what could be considered full but not PACKED. There were enough people there but there was still plenty of room to enjoy yourself and be able to dance… My friend also managed to sneak her camera in (STRICTLY forbidden) so we got to take some pictures. When Armin was about to finish we went upstairs to the VIP to make sure we could thank Armin and his management for all they’d done for us for the evening…
We headed back to the hotel, showered and went to wait for our bus to take us to Eivissa-Ibiza Airport…. We were very sad to see this little trip come to an end, but we were still basking in the wonder that was the night before :)
Ibiza Final Hours-Aug 11
We arrived at the airport way too early, checked in and our plane was slightly delayed… My friend and I kept joking about seeing Armin at the airport since he had to catch a plane to NY for his gig… It was so early, and we hadn’t slept yet so we were 2 little walking zombies…
The airport service in Ibiza isn’t very rapid, when we were waiting for our hand luggage to go through the little X-ray machines, who shows up right there and then?? Armin! Hehehe we joked around with him a little bit, we were all so full of life after a night of no sleep and we also took a quick picture with him, and then he was off to catch his plane. Roger Sanchez was also standing in line in front of us at the X-ray machines… My friend and I ended up falling asleep like bums in the airport while we waited for our plane. We finally boarded and slept the entire flight back to Amsterdam…
Our Ibiza vacation had come and gone in what seemed like a blink of an eye, but what an adventure it had been ;)
Armada's 3 DJs on a Boat-Aug 14
My friend and I weren't sure how this day itself was going to unfold. During the day there was the Fast Forward Heineken Dance Parade in Rotterdam and we weren't decided as to whether or not we were going to go... The weather forecast was rain, so the night before we had decided not to go... When it turned out to be sunny saturday morning, we decided we would head to Rotterdam to try to catch the last part of the Parade.
We were in Rotterdam about 3 PM and the parade was only until 4, so we hurried to the area where the parade was going to end, we only caught a bit of it, because right after the area where we were standing, the trucks had to turn off their music.. We weren't really feeling the vibe too much, so after Ferry's truck came by, we decided to just head to the city and then home to get ready for the Armada night ahead.
The party was to start at 10 PM, and after getting all dolled up and taking a cab and trying to find the boat, we were finally there around 11 or so... Turned out someone had forgotten to put us on the guestlist, haha! After a few quick phone calls and a short conversation with the forgetful-one LOL, things were sorted out and we were on the boat... Remy was already spinning and to be honest I had no idea what to expect from him, but he definitely got the crowd warmed up and ready to go :)
My friend and I decided we were going to get tipsy this evening, hehe so I dont quite remember Markus starting to be honest. I do remember that he spun an absolutely STELLAR set! Markus gets me everytime (watch out Armin :p )!!! Before and after his set I had such a good time talking to him. All the dutch people are turning into little Markus Whores (YAY) and I was having a good laugh with Markus about it ;) It was really nice seeing and chatting with him, although the Mrs was definitely missed :( During Markus' set Armin was just walking around so my friend, Renske and I had a little bit of a chit chat with him and were joking around with him a bit as well, which is always nice ;)
After Markus it was time for ARMIN! :) At some point the boat had started sailing but I was not really sober enough to realize that, until I saw buildings drifting by, hehe! Armin had me dancing throughout his set, and there were SO many people I knew there. It was just an amazing atmosphere. There was more than enough room to dance, yet the night was an absolute success! It seemed like the people who came, came because they genuinely loved these dj's rather than a "oh it's cool to go to this party" kind of crowd :)
Before I knew it, the night was over. It was crazy how fast it went by, and it's too bad I dont remember all that much from all the Breezers and "bessen" (dont know the english name :p ) but it was a great, great time none the less. Surely one of the most fun parties I have been at! :) A friend took us back to Renske's place where we crashed and laughed at the night's events :D
This pretty much covers the parties I went to while I was there. Although the last thursday I did go to ID&T radio during A State of Trance, which was a really really good time as well. Armin was being so damn silly :D Seems I'm going to have to wait quite a while to see him again, Armin will be working hard to finish his next artist album and a bunch of other projects, but he needs to get some rest from all the travelling he's been doing as well...
It was a great time, and eventhough I've only just gotten back (and still not recovered or over my jetlag) I can't wait until the next time I get to go again already! My heart lies in Europe, what can I say.... Although I did miss all my friends, my family and my home... But well, there's just something about Holland (and definitely Ibiza) that draws me back everytime... Can't wait for my next trip there, whenever that may be... And next summer for Dance Valley and Ibiza once again ;)
nou ja, hopenlijk vonden jullie het een beetje leuk ;)

mooi verhaaltje, valt me wel op dat jullie een stuk vroeger wakker waren op ibiza. Wij kwamen meestal rond 3/4 uur ons bed uitgerold. hehe.
Trouwens welk hotel zatten jullie?
