He is famous across the world for the dancefloor classic ‘Lizard’. He is one of the biggest, most in-demand DJs on the planet. He is Italian, and he has won over 12 accolades across Europe for Best International DJ. The man is Mauro Picotto and he’s coming to LOVE Saturdays at Club Matrix on Saturday August 21st. It’s yet another feather in the well adorned cap of this remarkable club night that is impressive in its ability to bring the very best, most elusive international DJs to play it’s expansive Indigo Room. Much to the absolute delight of LOVE Saturday’s Northern Ireland-wide fanbase!
Mauro Picotto was voted by readers of former Irish dance music bible BBm as Best International DJ, above Carl Cox, John Digweed and Paul Van Dyk. That’s no mean feat for the DJ and producer, who has also topped DJ polls in Spain, Denmark, Switzerland and Germany. Picotto is loved for his tough, trance-to-techno sound and this teamed with the music he has produced on his own label Alchemy and his work in establishing his new electronic dance brand Meganite, has secured his place in the super-league of world DJs.
Spanning the boundaries of tough trance and techno with ease, Picotto purveys a unique sound that issues a two-fingered salute to those who try to pigeon-hole his music. He is loved for it. Behind the decks, he’s an enigmatic master of creating the ultimate party atmosphere; and it is a visual as well as aural experience, thanks to some impressive technical wizardry. This first hand experience of entertaining to perfection a live dancefloor, is channelled into his production and the resulting music tend to be imbued with a special magic; an infectiousness rarely matched, even by some of the world’s best producers. ‘Lizard’ was, and still remains years after its release, a prime example of Mauro Picotto’s extra-ordinary capability.
And he continues to expand. Mauro launched his clubbing brand Meganite in Space, at the Miami Music Winter Conference this spring, and now this summer, Meganite has taken up a residency in Privilege, Ibiza – Picotto will fly direct to Club Matrix from Ibiza on August 21st.
Mauro is also in the process of releasing a Meganite compilation on Alchemy right now, as well as working on his own artist album. And all the while, his DJing takes him across the globe stopping off at New York, London, Amsterdam and now LOVE Saturdays @ Club Matrix, as well as tours of South America. Like Oakenfold and Tong who have gone before him, unsurprisingly, US domination is on Mauro Picotto’s agenda.
And so, thanks to PLM Promotions, creators of LOVE Saturdays and its magic, Mauro’s imminent Northern Ireland appearance at Club Matrix on Saturday August 21st, is a pretty big deal. The event will see eager clubbers travel by bus, train and bike, if necessary, from across the country and parts of the South.
