Iranian judo champion refuses to fight Israeli, withdraws from Olympics

TEHRAN - Iranian judo champion Arash Miresmaili has withdrawn from the Olympics after refusing to play against an Israeli opponent, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported Saturday.
"I refused to play against an Israeli rival to sympathize with the oppressed Palestinian people," IRNA quoted Miresmaili as saying.
Miresmaili refused to play Israeli opponent Ehud Vaks in the 66-kilogram category.
Miresmaili was world judo champion in 2001 and 2003.
Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, the conservative speaker of Iran's parliament, congratulated Miresmaili on his "brave decision."
"Your disqualification because of supporting Palestine would promote your position in the heart of Muslims," Haddad-Adel said, according to IRNA.
Iran does not recognize Israel and bans any contact with the Jewish state.
Ali Kafashian, deputy head of Iran's sports organization, suggested awarding Miresmaili a special prize because of his refusal. |

This world champion would have crushed the israeli ehud vaks, who by the way has been eliminated.....ahahaaahaha

Iran doesnt accept Isreal nor they want to face them in anyway.Iam not saying thats a good thing but it is reality.:o

Well he was the world champion so he mustve known he was in with a good chance for gold, and obviously being world champ he can kick some serious ass!!
Me in his shoes, i wouldve continued with the competion and make the jehuda pondscum hurt.......and then dedicate the victory to the bruthas and sista's in palestine(which would've still ended up in a disqualification).

I just watched a two hour film on the 1936 Olympics. It was the best Olympics I've seen in a bad humor sort of way. Oh that Adolf, what a funny guy, what will he do next.
