Can someone explain to me the difference between midi controllers and synths in FL

When you press notes with a midi controller like a radium under FL, do you hear the sound via FL or just notes appear on the screen?? What about Synths, does it's sound come out of FL?
And what is the difference between a midi controller and just a normal keyboard under FL? Thanks. |

I'm not sure I understood your question, but a midi controller just controls an internal track, e.g. a softsynth. So basically if you press A1 on your midi controller, it plays note A1 of the selected track you have in your audio sequencer/studio.
A synth on the other hand has its own sounds, and when you press the keys of it the sounds come from that synth itself.
We'll let someone else continue. Correct me if I'm wrong, I've personally never been in touch with a midi controller.
A keyboard btw is just a set of keys. A synth can be rack version (without keys), or keyboard version (with keys). |

| Thanks for the info...but what about sytnhs under FL?? If for example you play a cool sounding note under a Virus will that exact sound come out under FL? |

In FLP you will have to create a "MIDI OUT"-track for your hardware synths like the Virus. Then you basically and as easy as that program a set of notes in FLP's score editor, and when playing the track FLP will read the notes and "fetch" the sounds for them from the hardware, e.g. the Virus. I don't know if the Virus synth series works as stand-alone as well with only headphones or attached speakers to a "PHONO"-output, but I personally don't see any benefit in buying an expensive synth for electronic music and then use it as stand-alone. So to answer your question, the sound doesn't come from FLP, it comes from the synth, but is only triggered by the notes you wrote in FLP. I don't know if this goes too basic, so shout if these things are already clear for you.
When you finally want to record your song to a wave file (exporting), you can either do a "live" recording, which is a realtime recording, or a stream recording. Somehow I have not succeeded in stream recording my MIDI OUT stuff, but that might be because of my soundcard (?). |

HEy thanks dude, pretty much clears it up. So my I guess if that is the case then all synths will basically be compatible under FL. |
