Okay I am going to warn everyone before I start my rant that I AM ABOUT TO HAVE AN ONLINE PROMOTER/DJ TANTRUM.........I apologise in advance if I hurt anyone but this really needed to be said. If you are easily offended please return to your regularly schedualed programming....this may not be suitable for all audiendces....
ahem
You guys are a freaking joke. I know I am a promoter and am supposed to be all kind and nice and kiss your asses because I want you to ocme to my night, and keep my mouth shut but enough is enough. I refuse to be sensored by the politcs of modern promoting. Screw that. I thought I'd bring it to your attention that holy you guys are ridiculous. There has not been a trance night in the downtown core for awhile and now a few have sprung up (mine, Lace's and Phu/Ricky's monthlys at the Plaza) but still it isn't enough to get your lazy computer geek asses out of your chairs and into a club to support the music. I suppose if my last name was van Buuren then you might show. I think that is ing pathetic, unsupportive and elitist. Shame on you. Danny Taylor runs a wicked night in Richmond and I bet the majority of you don't even know what the name of the club is where he has his night. Lace has been djing for years and is one of my heros and has really pushed the Van scene forward in so many ways, yet I see many of you supporting him either.
Then there is my night. Obviously I am more than pissed. And I wouldn't be surprised if this thread was dissallowed by the moderators as it is really unlike me to spout such profanity and yell, but I HAVE HAD IT. I am tired of playing week after week for no one and hearing from the board members saying yeah I'll be down etc..........what a load.
Don't bother saying you'll come when you know you won't, and don't profess to know everything about the music and that you support the scene because you don't. You are too happy to hide behind your computers and download sets that you don't pay for ripping off artists that you declare are awesome and sit at home and listen. Unless an event is free you won't show. But you'll pay $80.00 a ticket to go see Tiesto. GET A GRIP. In the meantime the locals who go out and bust thier asses trying to create something in Vancouver are shot down from lack of support.
Think about it.
I told you a tantrum. Issues? Come find me at boomtown and tell me about it. Don't bother pm'ing me, e-mailing or whathave you. Be direct. |

there is more but given my usual diplomatic demeanour has been thrown out the window I am going to let myself breathe for a bit before I resume my rant.
J-Spot we need peeps like you here in Van............boy I miss Calgary, small but I know people will come out to see me play. Functions such as Fusion go off and people have fun and dance TO LOCAL DJ'S!!!!!!!!!!!!! Collectives like area 709 exists (for those of you who are in the dark check out www.area709.com...........they are the most amazing group of people totally genuine and in it for the music)
I guess I am so upset because I love this . It is my saving grace. For the first time this week I felt at peace during my 3 hour set last night. I completely let myself go and was absorbed by the music. It was a very amazing experience and I am upset I didn't get to share it with more people.
The point of this post is not to say I am a great DJ and get all annoyed because my ego is bruised. The point is quite the opposite. Alot of you have expressed desire to play at my night...........um if you don't come and support me how can you expect me to support you???
I want to have peeps come in and play. I want to be able to pay my DJ's hell I'd love to be able to pay myself.
We have the Liberator show in september and I am already eating my shoe from the stress. I am not asking for sympathy or a pat on the back I am simply trying to call to your attention a much sugar coated issue.
I work really hard to serach out new tracks for every week. 80% of my set last night was new material. Like brand new arrive din the mail that morning material. Stuff that blows my mind. I was just disheartened that only 18 people came to hear it.
The 18 people that did come have been coming consitently for four weeks and I seriously owe them so much. They are such a wonderful dedicated group of people. I love them.
I have Danny Taylor one of the city's best dj's as a resident and I am embarrased everytime he has to play for an empty club. There is just no excuse anymore.
Mario aka Lidster has been playing records for over 11 years and honestly is a hidden gem in the scene. If funky house is your thing come early, he sets up the night better than anyone ever could.
Then there's me. meh I am not going to talk about myself. I am not like that. In fact I am happy just sharing my saving grace which is music with other people. |

Well said Mirka...
No it wasnt a "Rant" and you were not rude to anyone. Everything you said is true and in fact it mirrors my own feelings about the scene here in Calgary. You could replace Vancouver with Calgary and sign my name to the bottom of it and it would be all true...and no its not a tantrum, it's just the truth. People need to read this and apply it to their own city/local scene. Think about it people...
