hm, well one thing I realised 2 years ago or so that made me feel more comfortable... you can't count on the people that "love" the music, you have work for the people who don't know the music. trying to earn people's respect makes you lose track of what you're trying to do: make a place people will enjoy spending many hours at 2-3 times a month.
And you're asking why most people sit at home? Well... maybe cause most people on message boards are geeks :) |

mirka is totally right and she has every right to express her feelings. i feel frustrated often myself when i see so many vancouver TAs here posting and saying how great all these big events are and so on and so forth, but i bet more than half never make it out to them because they dont wanna go by themselves (ive been doing that for over a year and everywhere i go i see people that i know, besides, nobody is gonna bite you if you're alone), or they dont wanna drive to downtown or richmond, or they dont wanna pay $5-10 (i understand if its $30-40-50 for a local but $5-10.....), or just cause.
vancouver promoters are busting their asses for us, to create something for us and we dont make much effort to support them, what kind of a community are we then?
i went to the drink last thursday, i was astonished by the nearly inexistent support the night had from anyone at all. mirka and danny are such amazing DJs, we are so lucky to have them in the city doing regular shows (sorry mario, dont think i ever heard you spin :) ). i just cant wrap my mind around the fact that no one wants to go out on a thursday night, its just not true. i remember barfly having something going on on thursdays and it was their biggest night of the week, if you came after 11:30-12, chances of you getting in were pretty slim, unles you paid the bouncer. besides, no one said you have to stay until closing. it sucks that quite often i work at night closing shifts so i cant make it out to this night. but guys, this is the next big thing after viva and sonar on fridays. if we want anything remotly similar to european or even montreal's party scene, we kinda have to work on it first, we cant just have something good out of thin air.... |

I understand how you are stressed out and I would be too. I can see that you are very emotional and passionate about this. But what you are trying to accomplish by insulting us, I have no idea.
I will just leave it at that. |

ummm i work full time. sry if i cant party every night
I dont know why you posted this here. I mean for the most part the vancouver area here is VERY small. I mean not to long ago there were only like 10 or so Vancouver TA's on here. And even if Everyone of us Vancit ta Forums REGULARS came out you still wouldnt have even close to a full club.
I have supported this scene for over 7 years, And now i get insulted cause i cant make it out to every night. And by the way when i was living downtown I was one of the few people that went to Shift at the drink EVERY thursday to support Haze, who i worked with a the time.
this wasnt meant in anyway as a burn on you, in fact i have nothing but respect for you. But you got to chill, dont come in here and tear us apart cause for the most part this is a pretty tight group of people. Save that for Fnk. Oh and i threw a weekly trance orientated night for a couple months as well, i know how much of a pain in the ass it is to not have anyone come out, but you got to act like a professional. We all know the scene here, we all know there is almost no market for a regular trance night in Van let alone on the weekday. |

I work full time too. And no I don't expect people to come out every week that is ridiculous.
Jesten I posted a warning at the beginning of this thread warning of it's unusal disheartened content. I am simply airing my grievances. I apologize if I offended you but this i show I feel take it or leave it.
It is possible to stop by for a drink every now and then though. For those of you in school I understand. I did the university and post grad thing. This was just my way of letting people know it is not all peachy in the land of promoting, and I guess my way of relieveing someof my pain about not getting to do saturday night at the drink which has been given to the Loaded crew.
I didn't ask for you to come out either I simply made a few valid arguements.
I realize the TA community is small. I gave Sean head of the trance army grief too as he also has not made it down yet.
Everything in time I guess. It just sucks that it takes me to spend alot of money on a big name DJ fo rpeople to show up, and even then it's like pulling teeth. It's not just on message boards but everywhere in general. Not just in Vancouver either. Everywhere the scene is struggling.......so in a way I guess we all are experiencing growing pains.
Again I am sorry and maybe I too am a geek. Who cares? |
