Chicago Policy on Outdoor Event Planning

Hi, i was wondering what the city of chicago's policy is on planning an outdoor gathering with music at a public outdoor place, such as lincoln park or the beach? anyone ever tried this?

I like your thinking...I looked in to this myself awhile back and if you want to go something at a park you have to pay to rent the spot, pay for insurance, and pay for security. I think the beach is the same thing. I was hoping to get like a dj event going on the beach area. I was thinking like an all day thing for 3 days. House, Trance,Prog. etc. Bring in about 20-30 local amatuer /semi pro dj's. I have everything to do a small little show for about 200-3000ppl( speakers, tables, lights) I just cant find enough interested people in Chicago who would want to get in and do this with me. Aslo I rmeber that thepark thing would cost huge $$$.

You really have to start early with those kinds of things - getting insurance is really a pain especially depending on what company you're using and if youre going through an agency.

Places you might want to check out?

Best way to get something done is to look for phone numbers and start calling people. Doesnt even matter who as long as they can direct you to someone who knows something.

Think local sponsors, too...

Last year for my birthday, I had a bonfire at the Evanston cement fire ring. pretty nice set-up they have there. 3 areas: bonfire, beach, and park with shelter. no DJs or anything, but we had boomboxes blasting at each of the areas and no one complained. it worked out really well for about the same number of people you're planning for. the only problem is that it closes pretty early. we had it all afternoon all the way until the permit expired.

Chicago Park District or somebody is gonna want to make money off your event...for their use of property...who knows. Never looked into something like that before. It's like throwing a really huge house party only with a bigger back yard.:haha:

exactly, but being 18 years old, I obviously only have so much power against the city of chicago. I thought a small gathering with about 50 people would be sanctioned by the city of chicago, even though it is a reasonably conservative office.

Speak about it to your parents. Maybe they can help you get in contact with the city and your community to promote a safe non-abrasive community event for electronic music lovers. I'll petition for it for the cause. ;)
