Hi,
I was wondering which soundcard everybody uses? If you only want to play VSTi's and not record any external stuff, is the basic Audigy 2 (not talking about Platinum or whatever) then (almost?) as good in sound quality as higher priced cards like the Audiophile 2496, etc..
How is the audio quality of the Audigy 2? Any happy Audigy 2 users over here? No problems with the ASIO driver or something.. I believe people complained about the Audigy in the past but perhaps the latest drives are OK now.. even at low latency as long as you use 48khz in Cubase SX ofcourse.. but perhaps people also like to critisize the Audigy 2 cards while they might be perfect OK so please be objective in your comments! Thanks!! |

Does everybody use that Audiophile card (I know it's a good and popular one) or are there also happy Audigy 2 users. Anybody has both and can compare regarding sound quality when playing VSTi's. Do VSTi's sound much different between those cards or will it be more or less the same..
Also, is the fact that the basic Audigy 2 has only ASIO 1 really a problem for VSTi's. What does ASIO 2 offer more then direct monitoring. Is direct monitoring relevant for playing VSTi's or only if you record external stuff. |

| I don't believe that the soundcard will affect the quality of your VSTi's. VSTi's don't generate sounds in the soundcard, but in the systems memory ( correct me if I'm wrong ). |

The souncard will only affect the sound quality coming out of your monitors. |

I just ordered an E-mu 1820M and it should be here next week, but right now im using a Audigy zs platinum
You can get down to 10-20ms depending on which vsti's you have running, but that is a little how for me. |

it comes pretty close. you might be able to hear the difference when using a good pair of speakers, but, then again, you might not. it depends. i currently use audigy 1 bulk (it costs like 50 USD now) which aint that bad, but i am getting an emu 1212m in a few days, and then i will be able to tell if the quality difference exists.

the converters are pretty basic stuff - better than onboard ones, but not completely suitable for pro level. i don't know anyone who uses audigy or live card with standard creative drivers though - creative sucks in that department. everyone i know uses kx drivers which proved to be pretty good.
you must understand that audigy cards will never be as good as the pro stuff simply because creative main buyers of audigy cards are not professional musicians, but gamers and people who want to watch movies in 6.1 sound. |
