Hi all, I've been using this forum for a while and I'm not looking to piss any one off but I am posting this message here and similar messages on other forums in hopes that the powers that be will hear me and others outraged about this topic.
I am sick and tired of hearing about events involving my favorite DJ's (all non-local) being scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday nights in this great city we call Atlanta. There are plenty of us who have to get up the following morning to go to work very early because we have normal M-F 9-5 jobs. It's gotten to the point recently where I don't even bother going. Even if I have purchased my tickets online ahead of time when the night rolls around I think about being out til 3AM and having to get up for work at 7:30 and my head spins. Some may throw the idea around that I am weak spirited or lazy but I beg to differ. When I do go, I am usually one of the most lively persons in the crowd, dancing, yelling, starting the whole "Artist Name Chant". If you've seen me at one of these events you know that I am full of energy and spirit. I don't get hoped up on drugs or drunk, what you see there is me and only me and my passion for the music.
There are a few things that I understand that deter our local venues from bringing on big names (Tiesto, Ferry, Armin, PVD, Sasha, Digweed, etc...) on Fridays and Saturdays.
- I'm sure the DJ's charge more on Fri/Sat than they do Wed/Thu.
- Might miss an opportunity to give one of Atlanta's piss poor DJ's the spotlight.
- Maybe venue owners don't think enough people come to big DJ events (Hint: more people will come if it wasn't on a Wed/Thu night)
- Venues prefer Fri/Sat nights to be 21 and older
- Maybe Atlanta isn't high on said Big Name DJ's priority list
- Since Mid-week is usually slow for clubs, bringing in a Big Name DJ brings more traffic on an otherwise slow night.
- Big Name DJ already booked because venue or coordinator didn't schedule in advance (early enough).
I am sure there's a laundry list of reasons, many that I would not think of because I am not a club owner or event organizer. I do however DJ and I would expect even if I were to get a club gig that it would be on a week night and the larger names would have the weekend slots reserved for them.
If the venues in Atlanta are scared of how well they will do on Fri/Sat with a big name DJ maybe one of them should take a chance, see how it does for their revenues and share their experiences with the other clubs. I have a feeling your experience will be good, we have seen this proven time and time again in other cities such as Chicago, Miami, New York, etc...
I will gladly except any PM's concerning this issue, I'd rather not receive flaming PM's but nothings here to stop you either. :D
Peace

| i agree with you, but you have to realize that they won't change the 21+ thing, and only during the week can these venues be 18+.. |

| you live in atlanta and no disrespect to you but obviously cities like miami, nyc and la are gonna score the friday night dates while other smaller (but yet still big) cities get the mid week dates. |

Given the price of big name dj's the promoters must fill out the club - maybe they feel they feel the only way to do that is to have it where 18+ can come.
I know lots of people like you who have m-f 9-5 jobs yet they still go. This is no disrespect to you but they want to go enough to feel like the next day.
Wait for a response from Liquified and post this in the Florida section and you'll probably get a better answer
Enjoy the shows when you can!! |
