skm you shouldn't really be fussed with the stylus or cartridge dude,
unless your in a DMC comp and wanna scratch the fcuk out of a record, then start checking specs

i got a pair of ortofon pros, no complaints here.

Personally used all the ortofon/stanton cartridges and never been satisfied. Went for the Shure M44-7's and they are a rock solid stylus with the best tracktability on your records. I've never had a needle skip/jump mid-way through cueing or right before mixing (like you occasionally do with the concorde/trackmaster cartridges) and gives an awesome output. My fave fo sho!

Best is to try before you buy and judge for yourself, although it's hard to get a feel for them in one sitting :)

Good luck

Anyone used or got 'pickering' carts?

I've had mine a while and am very happy, thought they were getting tired, went and bought a pair of stanton's.... cried at the poor tracking and volume so put the pickering's back on. 5mv output beats most other stuff out there, but not sure how they compare sound quality wise to the other stuff..

NB anyone thought about getting them sent over from the uk. Chemical records has good prices. I recently got a pair of Sennheiser HD25's, got them sent with a few records, didn't get held up in customs, and saved me over 200 on the phones.....!!

well the shure m44-7 have a 9mV output....haven't checked pickerings although that's not to say they're a bad cart. I guess reputation is built on reliability and success of use for a particular person or application. It can become a pretty personal choice as some people prefer certain brands etc over others (regardless of specs.)...

Tough one really.
