hey guys! i am going to Finland 2morrow. i am flying in to helsinki, then renting a car with 4 other friends and driving up to the laplands. we are there for the summer solstice, or mid-summer, not too sure what you guys call it there.
just wondering if you guys have a few places that you would suggest, like bars or clubs and stuff in helsinki. i assume there isnt much clubs in lapland...;).
also i know english is widely used there, but is that even so when you step out of cities?

Hi,
I do not know Helsinki that well, but I can answer about the language thing. At least here in the western parts where I live you can assume that at least younger people (below 40, 50 or so?) speak English, as it is compulsory in the Finnish schools. So no difference between cities and countryside.
Enjoy the light in Lapland. It is truly fantastic, and expect that you'll be having a hard time going to sleep when that d*rn sun won't get out of your eyes. ;)
If you told your waypoints between Helsinki and Lapland we could perhaps give you some hints about things that are worth seeing. |

yeah we dont have a set plan really, just driving up there. i believe we are going by the lakes region, not that sure...

Lakes region? There's lakes everywhere here... :)
How long are you staying in Helsinki for? I can check if there'd be any events happening during the weekend. |

yeah lakes everywhere....we really dont have a set plan.
i am getting to helsinki at 10am saturday, leaving 10am monday. so a saturday nite event would be cool. even if not a good bar or club would do. |
