Driving Licence

Hey all, just quickly, I recently got a new car, well newer than my 86 Laser.. hehehe.

Anyways this one was auto transmission, but now my new one, Corolla SX, its a manual, I can drive it and all but if i get pulled over is it illegal because im only on my red P'z and i did the driving test about 10 months ago in an auto car???

is it that after 1 year u can drive watever car? Be either auto or manual?

I would call RTA but they are closed atm, hmm... maybe i can call the cops, they might know.

not sure if NSW has different laws to VIC but...

i know in VIC that if your Ps are for an automatic, you cannot drive a manual car. but if you have a manual license, you can drive both (well duh).

although once you're off your Ps, regardless of what your probationary license was for, you can drive both types (without going for a retest).

mm reading RTA site, are you on a P1 or P2 license?

if you're on a P1 license, you can only drive an auto (since you took the DART in an auto). if you have a P2 license, you can drive both.

read here.

Below, is for P1 licenses only
quote:
Be restricted to driving an automatic transmission car or clutchless manual (depending on the vehicle in which the DART is undertaken).

Im on my P1's.

So wait, does this mean that in August, when i go for the P2 test i can drive watever, without having to do a restest in a manual car, cause i looked at the site b4, but not really explaining much, either that or im too tired from studying...

Btw, wtf is a clutchless manual?

if you pass the hazard perception test, you will have your P2s, and thus be eligible to drive both auto & manual (this is what i've gathered from the RTA site).

a clutchless manual is for pansies! often referred to as ' manuals'. used to be found in only upmarket european cars (think bmw, mercs, audis etc). but now some higher model jap cars have them too. its exactly as the name says, you have full control over what gear you want your car travelling in, but when you change gears, you just flick the gear shifter, without having to use a clutch. imo, no fun to drive whatsoever!

Yeah... cars.. but even still.

I know that in Victoria you can do a sort of re-test if you need to drive a manual and you only have an auto licence. It's not quite as long as a normal licence test but its still a bit of effort.

But you can't drive a manual until you're off you're P's all together here.

Its still beyond me why someone would get an auto-only licence to begin with.. I don't understand it.
